didn't think i would get to hunt saturday after kids soccer games in the morning and a 3 hr drive to the ranch. but we ended up making good time and were able to get there and get some work done prior to hunting time.

was really after a big fallow buck i have been seeing on game cam lately and had put my bow in the bow stand on my way into the ranch a couple hours earlier.
one of my bow stands is a few hundred yards from my cabin, so i decided to hunt that one due to proximity to the pond.
at 5:30, i decided to head down there, but to my surprise, that fallow buck i was after just happened to show up and was eating the berries off a cedar tree 40 yds from my bow blind. i thought, this is great, i can sneak up on him and put an arrow in him. will be a heck of a story to tell. only then did i remember that he was actually in closer proximity to my bow than me smile so i waited until he finally walked off into the thick stuff before i walked to the blind and be reunited with my bow frown

he never came back and i sat there until about 6:30 when i had some young WT bucks and some blackbuck running around. Then i caught a glimpse of something big coming in to my left. it was 3 aoudad rams. two of them were younger males and one was a flat faced old bruiser. i got the video camera running and quickly decided this was the best opportunity i may ever have to kill a trophy ram with my bow.
with my heart racing at a near death pace, i would have likely choked the shot, but fortunately for me, the big ram would not give me a decent shot for literally 35 minutes. it was so agonizing to watch him eat a little and then walk off, then come back, then face me directly, all the while be obstructed by the younger rams or a blackbuck. finally around 7:15, he turned just enough to give me a window of a couple of feet, the other ram was ducked down and i let the arrow fly.
he was at 28 yds and the arrow made a clean pass thru. i hit him about 6 inches further back than i was aiming and he turned and jogged up the hill. when he stopped again at 70 yds, i could see the bright red blood pouring out of both sides. he ended up about 100 yds before all was done.
i gave him over an hour before i left to retrieve him.

he weighed 250lbs and measurements were right at 30" on horns with 12.5" bases.
it was truly one of the most fun nights i have ever had in the stand. kids and neighbors helped me get him loaded and gutted before a trip to the taxi the next morning.

bow was hoyt vector 32 with montec cs broadheads.
i will try to get the video posted if i can get it to upload.

here are some pics.
thanks for looking

with my little helpers..

and hanging in the shop.

i actually donated the meat. the local processor will take most anything and give to local families. they have a couple of families that prefer aoudad.
the young ewes i dont mind keeping and will make jerky and steaks from them

Kimble processing does a great job and are great people to boot.

The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.
