lets see them!

i know harris county has a open deer season, but I've never known any deer to be shot there.

Brazoria county has deer as well, but when I lived there over 10 years ago, the hunting was so-so, mainly pigs and few deer

Brazoria is totally loaded now. Definitely not on this list.

Harris is a good one. Can't really think of anywhere to hunt. Fayette used to be nothing but sparcely populated with teeny deer, but ARs have vastly improved it, so I don't think it's on the list anymore.

Gonzales is good, for the most part. Dewitt I believe is hit or miss with a lot of farmland, but also some decent spots.

I'd submit Austin County is on this list.

Harris Co has some pretty dang big deer if you can find them. There's some studs that live out at the airport.

SE Harris County has big deer here and there. Around Ellington Field, Armond Bayou Nature Center area and on site at NASA has some huge deer...

Actually hunting them is another matter. I don't know where it would be legal.

Fayette.....few in between.....had a bachelor group 2 months ago in velvet...only one shooter. now just 2 does, 2 fawns.. and coons...i believe my deer density in my county is only 15 to every square mile....and if my neighbors hunt.. i'm screwed.....

I wonder why Fayette County would not be good. It looks great from the highway. I have seen the real estate signs for the old A Bar Ranch and from the road, it looked beautiful. Can't say I have seen any deer now that you mention it.
Galveston county for a long time didn't even have a deer season. I don't think a forest of tallow trees can support a lot of deer.

those deer were brought in to armond bayou. there are a few around nasa.....some goodones. but I wouldn't call harris county a hunting county.

i would also vote for washington county as being a poor county for deer

From a guy that lives in Dewitt County, it is great. If you have habitat you have deer, same rule as elsewhere.

I lived in Spring from 1978 through 1995, during that period I had two different deer leases in Harris County. The first was a bit over 200 acres on Spring Creek and the other was 1,000 acres. Killed a buck every year. During that period I knew other hunters on other leases nearby, the largest place was 1,800 acres. '95 was when that area really started to change and a lot of this country fell to the chain saw and was covered over with pavement for one reason or another.

I flew out of Intercontinental Airport during this period, there was a lot of really good bucks around and on the airport. Before the runways where added, the north fence boundary had tower blinds along it from one end to the other. This was country that spanned the distance from near Aldine Westfield to Borderville. There was a lot of deer in those woods.

Johnson County. The southwestern portion of the county has a little bit more deer than the other areas and there are little honey holes here and there, but for the most part the deer population is sparse and TYPICALLY not very big.

Didn't know that about Armond Bayou deer. Interesting. I agree with you on both Harris and Washington County both being poor. I saw some Wash. Co. pics last week though, it is getting better than it was 20 years ago (it seems).

Yeah, I should have known better. You're getting pretty "south texas'ish" down there. Have a buddy with a place in Dewitt County that has no deer, but it's all open. I'm sure there are plenty where there are woods.

There are some patches of woods in the Klein area that are hunted and have decent deer. Just few and far between in Harris County.

lot of time between 78' and now.

i lived in pearland and all the woods i used to run around from 95'-01' are now neighborhoods.

btw, we used to run around quite a bit of country between 518 and beltway 8 and I never, ever saw a deer or deer track. no pigs either.

Just out of curiosity, I did a quick search of the latest Texas Big Game Awards - Whitetail Low Fence, Harris County. They are still there but granted the habitat isn't what it once was.
