I sure don't but I hunt with a lot of different folks that have them or use them and this is what I've heard. Man asked a question so I gave him my opinion, which for the time being I'm entitled to in this country. I have shot many a old 870's and they are great. Heard and seen a lot of bad things about the new one. Any other questions?

A used A5, 1100 or 11-87 in 12ga is an excellent value.

I have a Mossberg 835. This is the second one I have bought and I have not had an issue with either one. I bought a camo syntheic stock used for $350 with an extra choke. It will rust if it gets wet, but other than that, I never clean it and it shoots fine and accurately.

I used my friends 870 last year and had some issues with it reloading a shell after I shot. I am sure it was a specific gun issue and other guns work fine.

I had a Benelli Nova but thought it was heavier than the 835 so sold that one.

I tried both the SBE and Browning Maxxus and think they are both great guns. I have killed 2 out of 3 dove and 3/3 teal in a flock, so don't want to pay the $ to get one of the B guns at this time.

Like many people have said, the fit of the gun is more important than the price, so make sure you consider what fits the best for you.

Love when people say stuff like this. I have never had a problem with my Remington 870 wingmaster. Neither have any of my three cousins. Never listen to people who do not have first hand experience.

I love it when people love their shotguns so much that they can't believe when someone else has issues with the same type. It's just a shotgun. Don't let your ego get wrapped up in the performance of a product.

There are plenty of people on here w first hand knowledge of 870s. Including myself. I own one. The people that seem to look at it objectively and who have experience tent to say that the 870 has historically been a solid and reliable gun but over the last 10 to 20 years It along with most Remington's have gone down hill as far as quality. Mine was new 5 years ago hand had some issues that I don't think it should have had. I can recommend them.

You find lots of shotguns with high lemon ratios and it never fails that you will find owners that had zero problems with theirs and then they conclude so they must all be good and it must be user error.

The 870 is NOT the same quality as the 870 Wingmaster. To describe the difference is GM's Chevrolet and Gm's Cadillac. WHY has nobody mentioned the Browning BPS?

My observations of 870's that "jam" are because the shooter "short shucks" the gun. You also have to let go of the trigger between shots. Some folks just do not have the manual dexterity to operate a pump gun.

I think because I have a beretta px4 9mm and LOVE it I liked the recommendation of the beretta 3901. I was at the academy gun counter talking about it today and the older gent next to me said he has a million guns, and was at the range shooting yesterday-shot one and LOVED it. Now the only issue-Everywhere I look they either dont carry them, or are out of stock. Might start hitting up gun shows to see what I can find!

My grandfather gave me an 870 Express Magnum for my birthday in 6th grade. I still hunt with that gun and I, quite literally, have never experienced any malfunction that wasn't my own fault.

Last fall I purchased an 870 Express Magnum with a synthetic stock. I had three failures to extract in the first two boxes of shells that were serious enough that I had to take the barrel off because I was afraid I would break the extractor if I banged it on the ground. I was able to fix the problem easily enough by polishing the inside of the barrel extension and, to be fair, it would have worn-in over time - but Remington seems to have relaxed some standards. It's not like the gun is going to fall apart on you, but I shouldn't have to worry about being out of action for five minutes due to a shell stuck in the chamber of a pump gun no matter how new it is and it kind of peeves me that I had to polish the chamber with a dremel to get it working right. This is apparently a fairly common issue with the Express models; I have no idea if it ever extended to the Wingmaster line.

I agree that there is an abundance of second-hand Remington hatred, but I don't know that it's unfounded.

I have a new 2012 Rem 870. No issues at all (and I've put that thing through some hell). No matter what the conditions have been, I've been able to limit out with that gun (every outting) without having to field strip and clean it. I don't have to "baby" it in the field or worry about gas ports getting clogged. Don't have problems ejecting shells... I'd say the 870 is a good gun for the money. Not the best, but it's getting the job done.

No offense, but how much "hell" could you put a gun through in a month of dove and two weeks of teal?

That is one thing I would think would change the whole perception of the quality of the current crop of 870's.......Remington needs to open the chamber bore up a little more so if the shell happens to swell a little it won't stick. I had to sand the chamber on mine. I did it with some 80 grit emory cloth wrapped around a roll pin and chucked up in a drill. I have zero issues with this guns mecanical performance with that one modification.....An 870 can still be a heck of a deal, it just needs a little tweaking to get it to work properly, but really I see no reason why Remington couldn't take care of this at the factory.............
