Anybody have any experience with this round for elk? The ballistics on it look good but I don't have a lot experience with elk hunting. Thanks

They kill them with .243, .270, 25-06, 30-06. Don't feel undergunned with the 7 Mag. I'd pick a premium bullet (TTSX, Partition, A-frame, or Accubond) and practice up. Elk are big animals, so penetration is key.
Or, use it as an excuse to buy another rifle.
Good luck.

I've taken 2 bull elk (one made B&C), two caribou (also one Booner), and one Canadian moose with the 7mm Mag with 160 gr Nosler Partitions. If there is a better elk recipe, I haven't seen it. With the 140 gr Nosler Partition, I cleanly shot a Stone Ram in British Columbia and a few Texxas whitetails. With the 175 Partition, I added a NM oryx a few years back, and I'm leaving tomorrow for Wyoming and a Shiras moose hunt with the same 175 gr NPT. Also this year, I'm hunting with the 140 Barnes TTSX for a California Tule elk and a Saskatchewan whitetail. I've also used the Barnes to take 2 mulies. I think that, excepting the big bears, a North American hunter is NEVER under-gunned with a 7mm RM. Just stick with the tough premium bullets, and the Partition would be my first choice followed by the Barnes TSX or TTSX (or even the MRX with which I've taken both an elk and a mulie, but with a .300 Mag). You can fill an ark with the animals you can cleanly kill with a 7mm Mag.

Great pics above!
For me the 7Mag with 160gr Nosler Accubonds are a fantastic combination for any North American game.

There are several good choices in bullets IMO for big critters loaded in the 7 RM. Starting with the Partition, others Accubond, Trophy Bonded, Swift Sirocco and A-Frame, Interbond. Load a good bullet and put it where it belongs and enjoy. Bob those are some great animals and from the looks great hunts. Good luck with this falls hunts

Love my 7mag, my saying no matter what the game is "Have 7mag, will travel" I have loads from 120gr for Whitetail all the way up to 175gr for anything in North Amaerica. Very versatile and one of the most inherently ballistically stable bullets you can use.

2nd elk and last mulie are straight up studs

Thanks. Yes, they are studs. I've been a lucky hunter and have 6 animals in the B&C all-time book. The elk was my first. He grossed 392 5/8 and netted 385 exactly. The muley is hard to score. His short points keep him out of the book, but his mass makes him a worthy trophy for anyone's wall. He grosses in the low 190s.
The caribou are studs too. The first one is in the book as a Central Canada Barren Ground entry; he nets 371 5/8. The second one is bigger, but as a Mountain caribou, he falls just short of the book at 385 3/8. I also have a bison, muskox, grizzly, and blacktail that also made the all-time score.
My best whitetail grosses 161 5/8. I hope to beat that in 2 weeks when I go to Saskatchewan to look for a big buck.

Dawaba,
Where did you kill that mule deer in the last pic?

Santa Rosa Island, California.
Alas, it is no more as the National Park Service used a helicopter to shoot every deer and elk on the 84-sq-mile island last fall and winter. They did this after they confiscated the island and its working cattle ranch from the Vail/Vickers family and added it to the new Channel Islands Natl Park. It was the Park Service's desire to return the island to its original natural state that caused the death of over a thousand elk and deer. The carcasses and bones were left to rot in the sun. With all the tree huggers and greenies there, its hard to imagine that there was little uproar over the slaughter.
I also have a muley scoring 201+ and a 290-class Roosevelt elk from Santa Rosa. It quite likely was the site of my favorite fair chase 2 hunts ever.

I have read about Santa rosa islands for many years.
I cannot imagine how the park service was able to kill all those animals without public opposition
