my kid got drawn for YDE at Pat MAyse. I had never seen the place, so we drove over yesterday (in the rain) and drove around. Saw 3 does. Does anybody know much about Mayse? We've never done a draw hunt before. ANY info or help would be appreciated!

Fire, get in touch with the Junction C of C for info on where to stay & eat etc. SLR is 5/6 miles south of town, and ya'll should come home with plenty of critters in the cooler. Should be short shots and quick action so I'd practice somewhere I could make multiple shots at different distances under 100 yards at small tagets like a soda can, as fast as I can, while shooting from a seated position inside a small crowded blind...Ft Apache style.
The kolache place is killer but not open early enough so make sure ya get'em the nite before, or go in for lunch at the Mexican food place.

Ron, Thanks for the info on the local eats. I think we will be able to camp at the park during the hunt. We camped there this summer and saw a lot of nice animals out there. That was the main reason my son wanted to put in for that draw. Hmmm short shots and quick action...maybe I'll have to hunt with my AR-10 instead of one of my Winchesters. Decision, decisions

I don't think they allow camping during hunts. My son got drawn there 2 years ago. It was great! Got 4 axis and two whitetail spikes. They have a nice walk in cooler. Carry a knife sharpener! Bring a deer cart if you have one! I would invest in a big tent blind and good folding chairs. The blinds are super small. I doubt they would mind if you set up the tent by the blind. Bring alfalpha hay and calf creep pellets. Small caliber rifles with soft bullets are not good on Axis and you will have a chance at several! Neck shots are far better because you can't really track animals there and you'll have chances at another one an hour after you shoot! Good luck
