Back in my younger days I walked to my hunting spot sometimes it was a 3 to 4 mile hike, found fresh tracks, hunted down wind from the tracks in the brush with nothing more then a bare bones rifle with 4x scope and a canteen of water. Most of the time you wouldn't see a thing, but when you did it was a big deal.
Anybody still hunt like that?

I do. Love it. I still use blinds also....but I love working the woods on foot, especially when it gets wet and quiet. I'll go all day sometimes.

Yes, I do. Still my favorite method when conditions permit. It was (is) called "still hunting" because you ae still more than you are moving.

Difference between spot and stalk and "still hunting", but yes, I still do both. Spot and stalk is probably my favorite.

Yelp a lot best way to hunt in the Highplains panhandle. Spotting scope and pick up

I do it when the country is suited to it. It is a very satisfying way to hunt.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

We blind hunt most of the time. I have a tripod that is not on a feed or water sorce, just over looks trails between bedding area and water that I like to sit. Dont always see alot, but you can see for miles from that spot. I also like to rattle, and typicaly walk every where I go to see what I see, and I see alot of deer this way.
When we bought our place we drove the roads with the agent, looked it over. Some stayed at the camp to talk, I went for a walk turned down a sendero we had drove down earlier and looked at the tire tracks, sure enough there was a deer track right in the middle of the tire track, look up and there are 3 does sitting there 20 yards away, never know when and where your gonna see them.

I think the majority of Antelope and Elk hunting is spot and stalk. Probably Mule Deer too.

We don't have a property large enough to do it any more. My dad killed many deer on foot back in the day.

We hunt some open country, and usually I stay in the blind but if I see a bruiser too far away for an ethical shot then you better believe he's getting a stalk put on him. I also still hunt when th econditions call for it.

We don't have a property large enough to do it any more. My dad killed many deer on foot back in the day. This is what I was thinking, 30 years ago there where enough acres for me to SS, but now I am limited to it when necessary while in West Texas or in the Rockies. I have be most successful with Mulies and Elk, but with increasing hunting pressure in the mountains, it has been better to let the "other" hunters who like to roam push game to me.

that's a good plan, especially when wandering really limits the ability to cover ground to actually spot something.

I still hunt quite a bit, and enjoy it much more that sitting in a blind. Tend to see more older bucks hunting this way too, the ones that avoid blinds and feeders.

Only type of hunting I do. Luckily I have places where I can stretch my legs! I'll hunt a blind with my little one, or if it's a really awesome place and I have no choice. Even then I've been known to sit outside the blind, lol! Otherwise I've actually passed on a couple hunting opportunities just because blinds were the only type of hunting. No judgment on anybody, I'd rather come home with nothing but the satisfaction of hunting my way. Luckily that doesn't happen often.

Still do it. Took my son on one two years ago and he got addicted. His words, "Now that's what I'm talking about!" That's the only way he likes to hunt now.

My favorite time to stalk hunt is on windy days after a front and heavy rain. The wet ground and windy conditions seem to mask your movements.
