I didn't see where country boy said he wanted to "put them in a cage" He said in a "pen" We have rescued dogs from the local shelter for the specific purpose of hunting hogs. They seemed to have no issue with putting them in a round pen with a hog. However, we have never put a dog in a pen with a 350lb boar. Typically use a small, maybe 40-60lb pig. Neither animal is hurt by the other since we are right there with them. Also, our local warden knows this goes on. He encourages the way we hunt. Until that stops, I think we will continue what we do.

I will amend my first post about the legalities of placing a hog and a dog together in a pen. jmc82 in the above post brings up the important point about neither animal being hurt.
You can place any two animals together in a pen. Doesn't matter if it is a dog/cat, dog/hog, horse/cow...doesn't matter and it's perfectly legal. However, if you KNOW those animals will fight each other, or those animals fight each other and you do not stop it, it immediately becomes illegal under Texas Penal Code section 42.092. For MANY years, hog/dog fighting was perfectly legal in Texas until the statute was changed in either 2009 and 2010 due to public outcry over the practice. Texas Atty. General Rick Gilpin went on record, "...fights between dogs and hogs would constitute and offense under Penal Code 42.09." In all honesty, it's still a pretty common practice in many Southern states and is usually not prosecuted unless someone tips off the media and an investigation ensues.
So in summary, I will reiterate that placing ANY two animals in a pen together is perfectly legal UNTIL those two animals harm each other.

A tree hugger could, and probably would, compare hunting hogs with dogs to fighting. Especially if blood is drawn from the dog.

Thats why it's important to vote, and pay attention to who you are voting for.
I didn't learn this by seeing it on TV, I learned it by doing it.

Maybe you should know what the law says before you post, then edit your post! He asked if it was legal- which it isn't. Nothing is blown out of whack....till your post. BTW, most bird/duck hunters use bumpers instead of live birds to train dogs No its not the worst thread. The man asked a simple question and y'all have blown it way out of whack. Its a wonder anybody even stays a member of this forum do to the rude people that need to realise y'all arnt perfect. If a man wants to train a dog to hunt an animal more than likely they have to introduce that dog to a live animal. So a retrieving dog shouldn't bite and carry Back a wounded bird? Most of the people that want to tell the man he is wrong has never lived outside the city limits. People have trained dogs forever using the animal they want to hunt as a tool. We might as well just put on pink panties and make this the Texas cheerleading forum. Man up!!!!!!!
I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.

Just do it. You're gonna use the dogs to attack the pigs when you're hunting. Only difference is you kill the ones in the woods. So I'm sure its completely legal, regardless of what a few say.
