Suppose to have a biologist come out some time this month to share my plans and get some advise. I have a lot of things in mind to plant but I'm also planing on doing some experimental planting with some American chestnuts and on the place. I know blight killed most of them off further east where they originally grew in the early 1900's. I've studied how the game animals (deer & turkey) in the east relied on and preferred those nuts even more than acorns.
I also talked to a couple of turkey biologist who informed me that back in 2007 they did a super stocking of about 80 eastern turkey about 20 miles away. they had a recent report of birds less than 9 miles from usas they expand their territory, so I want to make our little place more attractive to every animal in the area.

I'd love to burn the place we are on but we lease it and it is managed by a timber company. One thing I noticed out here is that even when the areas have burned if you don't have a tractor to maintain it then it all looks the same again in less than 2 years. I saw a great deal over on the GS for a Case 4x4 tractor that would be right sized for your place. You might want to check it out.

just wanted to be able to find this later, great topic and great answers
If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

Been looking for someone not too far from Frankston with a tractor they can either let us rent, or come out themselves to mow and plow up some areas for planting.
Made a post on another thread about renting tractors in east TX but still haven't come accross anything. Found one place in Jacksonville that rents a tractor, but from the sound of it i'll have an issue getting it to our place.
Just curious to know if there's anyone from the forum who either owns a tractor and is near by, or knows of a place close to Frankston that rents for reasonable rates and delivers? Would like to get some work the the 24th and 25th if this month.
