Broadheads are affected by the spine of the arrow. Do your research and match the broadhead based upon length of arrow, poundage of bow, and arrow spine. The wt of arrow and broadhead is a direct factor of penetration. More deer are loss due to penetration and no exit wound. There is nothing wrong with mechanicals under the right circumstance. Do beware of cheap broadheads regardless of type. Mechanicals in my opinion have made guys skip the important step of tuning. A well tuned bow with matched arrrows will be more accurate and penetrate deeper. Pactice and shoot straight!

I am extremely new to bow hunting. Have yet to draw back on an animal. I haven't bought any broadheads yet. What would you recommend for a beginner and why? Also, which brand? Focus on making your shots, then on the details. Fixed or Mechanical really doesn't make a difference. Practice shooting a target from the exact tree stand or whatever stand you will hunt out of if possible. Try to eliminate all variables.

I would recommend Vortex mechanical. Never had a problem and know several people that use them with no problem. Also, they shoot like a field point.
At the end of the day. Use whatever you need to put in the kill zone with confidence.

I picked up two 3-packs of NAP Shockwaves off of eBay recently for $34. Hard to beat IMO.

I have gotten the largest entry and exit holes with the rage 2 blade. They leave a great blood trail starting at the point of impact and I have used hem on whitetail and axis. Just remember....practice, practice, practice
