What about New Zealand game in New Zealand? They all look pretty exotic to me!

Red Deer are not "New Zealand game"....Red Deer are native to Europe. Therefore they are, in fact, "exotics" to New Zealand.

All game in NZ are considered exotic as there was not any native game on the island till the exotics were introduced. Local Gov. considers them pests and wants them all gone.

I would say any African or other foreign game that makes it's way onto TX hunting forum is pretty exotic. Through text it is impossible to read your connotation towards the matter, but I think it appears slightly condensending to the guys with the foreign game pics to label and define whether it is an exotic enough trophy to belong here. An African killed Eland is certainly no less a trophy than one killed on a Texas ranch correct?

I did not mean to sound condescending at all!! The Eland and Lion pics posted are both fine trophies....and the hunters should be proud of them.

Nevertheless, they are not exotic animals, and have absolutely nothing to do with this thread.

Red Deer are not "New Zealand game"....Red Deer are native to Europe. Therefore they are, in fact, "exotics" to New Zealand.

You boys are more than welcome to post pictures of whatever you want....but just because something "looks exotic" does not mean it's actually an exotic. Exotics are defined as animals from a foreign country which are introduced to the area where they are being hunted.

But whatever confused2

So why did you post a moose thread here recently? All three moose species; shiras, canada, and alaskan Yukon are all native to the U.S. Yet you put it as an exotic thread? confused2

Not if you go by his definition. I just think we can split hairs all day. In the end I am not going to say anything negitive about a guy who wants to post a picture of a huge eland or a bow killed lion, and I definatly am not going to tell them that they have "absolutely no place" on an exotic forum.

By the way, Congrats on all the great animals guys. I would love to see more.

Perhaps I should have said "area" instead of "country"....moose are most definitely exotics to Texas.

I stand by my original statement, the OP asked...."what is your best EXOTIC"?

An Eland or Lion killed in Africa is NOT an exotic....period. They are native to the area.

This is just a pet peeve of mine....and if I actually offended anyone, I apologize.

If it was killed in South Africa on a game ranch and was brought into the area then I would call it an exotic even in Africa.

I'll post a few. First is a couple photos from an Oryx hunt last March with George Williamson and Helluva Hunt Outfitters near Encinal,Texas. My wife and I had a great time watching our son take a nice bull and I'm trying to plan another hunt with George late this year or maybe next spring.

The Axis photos are from a great buck I took last September while hunting with Robert Stuart (Tafrica Outdoor Adventures) near Bandera. Had a blast and I can tell you that Robert has some exceptional trophys and I will hunt with him again for sure. Take Care, Baker

Though the State of Texas once classified the Elk of West Texas a game animal they are now classified an exotic. This one was taken near Van Horn, Free Range as it gets.

Couple other exotics, blackbuck and fallow. Got these 2 and 2 pigs with 3 shots from the 257 Roy.

I shot a nutria at our lake one time.

hit him a little far back with the .22-250.

he sounded but I found him the next day dead against the bank.

If you didn't retrieve him at the time of the hunt it won't qualify as an exotic. Sorry, but those are the rules.

it was next day......same as if you left a deer overnight and found it the next morning.

it counts

yes sir, I'm planning my eland hunt for first of the year also. More than likely 8pr for me and the kid. He's 4 but will be shooting bigger stuff soon also. He's dead on with the bb gun and 17 open sights, got a work on the scope but that's all he talks about lately is going to the ranch.
