Love the looks of the Toyo MT but unsure of the highway ride. Looking for a set for my truck. Any feedback on brands and how they ride and mud performance would be appreciated.

I've had lots of mudders, right now I'm running a set of Nitto Trail Grappler MT's (10 ply) on a 1/2 ton Chevy. I love them. I have 30K miles on them right now & they are still wearing/riding good. Off road performance has been solid in snow & ice, mud & sand & they clean out well & ride well on the highway. They also take thorns well. I will be getting another set of them when the time comes. Toyo does make a good tire, I've never ran the Toyo mudders myself but know plenty that have with good results. The Mastercraft MT (made by Cooper) is an outstanding mudder. I've ran the MT & the CT & loved them both. Buckshot mudders do pretty good......there are quite a few to choose from that are ok....as far as off road performance I prefer a mudder with scalloped lugs & side biters, they dig & clean better. There are many to choose from just remember that especially with mudders, it's VERY important to put a set of new shocks on & have your alignment checked as soon as you put them on your truck. Check your air pressure once a month & run the proper air pressure for YOUR particular set-up/needs. Most importantly, get your tires rotated & balanced every 6,000 miles. If you do these things not only will your set last longer, they will ride a hell of a lot better on the highway but they're still mudders...they will never ride or sound like a highway tire.

Toyo M/T's are a very good mud tire. I was running them and was at around 30,000 miles before my ball joints went out causing me to replace them. Went with Nitto A/T's and I'm not happy with their performance. It seem the Nittos are wearing faster than my Toyos were. However I'm fairly sure Nitto/Toyo are the same company. Look at their tread patterns and writings on the tired, almost identical. The Toyo M/T's weren't as loud on the street as I thought they would be, quite tolerable actually. Unless you have the radio off and a stock exhaust set up I don't think you'll hear them. I run 35 inch tires w/ a 6 inch lift on my Dodge 2500. Highway ride was good for me with the Toyo M/T's. They run higher than the Nittos so I'm not sure if that has to do with the compound makeup of the tire. I'll most likely go back to the Toyos but have been considering Nittos Trail Grapplers which may be something for you to consider as well. They are a more aggressive all terrain with side biters. They happened to come out after I bought my All terrains.

Thanks Wall.

I have the Terra Grapplers now but on the lease in a wet spring like this one, they are rendered useless. Otherwise, I love them. 2nd set. The highway ride and noise are big with me. Thanks for the help. I like the Toyo's personally, but have never driven them

I found the Terra Grapplers useless in the mud and wet grass. I switched back to BFG's.

I love my Terra Grapplers but they are no means anything close to a mud tire, the Trail Grapplers on the other hand are a mud tire. There is a huge difference between these two tires.

Best cross between a MT and AT I have found...grip of a MT..noise of an AT

I have the Terra Grapplers as well and Ive found them to be useless this spring. I got stuck in the mud the last time out at the lease, thankfully I have the Warn 16.5K winch to pull me out. Wasn't trying to go mudding, just didnt realize the lease had received that much rain since the last time I had been there. Earlier I was saying to look at the Trail Grapplers, they look pretty cool. Ive seen them on a buddies truck and so far he loves them. So my next choice will most likely come between Toyo M/T's and Nitto Trail Grapplers, not Terra Grapplers.

I have never run mud tires, but my cousin has BF goodrish mud terian 285's on his 3/4 ton crew cab dodge with diesel.

They live on the road, but he keeps them balanced and rotated (bought at discount with lifetime rotation and balancing) ever 4,000 miles... yes every 4k miles. He did get 65K out of the last set when a belt broke and he replaced them, could have gone a couple more if the belt hadnt busted though.

BFG M/T's are great tires. Dunlop Mud Rovers are almost the same tire.

I run 33" BFG's, the old style KM Mud Tires, on mine. They will flat out sling some mud, but there isn't a hard bottom somewhere, they'll just dig down til the axles bottom out, just like any other tire.

I had mud grapplers once, it sounded a 172 Cessna in a dive the whole time when rolling and useless in the rain.. They did wear well.

Bf mud terrain were the best wearing least noisy ones I've had.

My huntin buddy has Toyo all terrain and they wear real good and are ok in mud.

I run the nitto m/t, great tire and they clean out good. I've only got 10k on them but they are wearing very good. Seems to have less road noise than the toyo

I'm wondering the same. My stock Goodyear SRA's aren't worth a darn out here in West TX. My buddy loves his Hankook Dynapro MT's and they're darn quit on the highway, and I have some friends that sware by the Nittos. My biggest problem is I have free replacement on the SRA's for 6 years, however, I only have 7500 miles on my truck and and I've had 3 SRA's replaced thus far and I took a nice chunk out of the sidewall of another one this past weekend at the lease. You would think they would put a better tire on an fx4.

For a true mud tire that can be lived with driving on the road occasionally it's hard to beat Goodyear MT/R with kevlar. Tuff as nails.
Toyo MT are a great MT tire, with better road manners than the goodyear MT/R.

My favorite all around AT tires with the most aggressive AT tread = Duratracs.
Goodyear silent armor pro grade is by far the best mild/normal tread AT I've ever owned. Of course they are priced accordingly.

Horible as far as what?

They dont make 37" tires that wear well and are quiet.

Duratrac is all I will buy from now on. I have had a couple sets and they preform great in all conditions and are relatively quiet for a aggressive tire. I have had the Nitto's and BFG All terraina and Mud Terrain and out of those few I'd stick with a the BFG if Duratrac didn't exist. My only biggest complaint is they all tended to rip and tear easily going down gravel roads compared to the duratracs. Toyo's have been good to my buddies who all drive diesels as well.
