My mother-in-law recently passed away and one of my wife's nephews (who is very well known as a big mouth) bragged that he had all his grandfather's firearms. His comment really made me think about how I would like my firearms "handed down" to my kids. One thing is certain, and as I told my three girls, "None of them will have ALL my guns after I die." The incident has also caused me to begin adding a few firearms to my collection so that each of my girls will get the same number and type of firearms.

Have you decided how your firearms will be "handed down" after you leave this earth?

I have no family to leave anything to. None that I'm willing to claim anyway. I'll probably give everything away to one of my closest friends or their kids.

Seriously though, we have everything already spelled out in a will including power of attorney and who will be asked to watch
over our most important possesions...our kids.

I have no idea where ours are going, hopefully to some kids.

I'd split them evenly amongst my kids. However, I would have a clause written in for my daughter that NO man she dates, or marries, be allowed to keep any of them! That they always be the property of my family, and stay that way. Don't think my wife would want anything other than hand-guns..

They will go to my sons who will fight over them as it should be

Majority of mine will go to my son and a couple will go to my hunting buddy.

I have no kids and I have often wondered about what I would do or like to have done with my "estate" after I am gone.

Unfortunatly I have seen this situation unfold in a VERY unpleasent manner with a buddy who's grand father died and left behind 3 big safes full of HIGH quality guns...

The situation went from bad to worse due to the executor of the estate (his eldest daughter) making some very bad & very greedy decisions.

This man had 5 grandsons which were each given one of the cheapest guns in the collection and the executor then signed the remainder of the collection over to her husband who then hauled the entire collection to a local dealer who sold them on consignment.....BACK TO THIS DEAD MANS FAMILY AT FULL MARKET VALUE!

This was so blatant that the "executor of the estate" Had the dealer put together an inventory with price sheet and distributed it to all the family memebers basically saying

"You can buy these guns at this place, first come first served if you dont buy them they are for sale to the public"

Gentlemen I tell you this so that you can plan your estate as YOU want it to unfold- Just because your daughter or son is the apple of your eye and you love them dearly....Dont assume they will do what you wanted after your not there to oversee the operation!

In the case of the estate I mentioned above, I'm preaty sure this man who pieced together his collection over 60years didnt do it so that his 5 grand sons who were either in College or with very young children to support, would have to wait at the door of a gunshop for it to open MAX OUT EVERY CREDIT CARD THEY OWNED to buy what they could of their grand fathers collection; thankfully a great uncle of theirs was very generous and heard what was going on and called the shop putting up a $20,000 line of credit on his personal credit card for them as well; they bought the cream of the collection and the sentimental ones.....and then the rest of the collection was sold off to the public from the store.

My Ruger Blackhawk .41 mag will go to a very dear and close friend whom has always wanted it and whom will charish it. The rest will be devided between my son and daughter.

My 2 boys can have them, I will probably give them all of them exceot one or two before I die anyways unless I die early!
