There was a thread on here not long ago about the outlook for corn this fall.

Just an update: Get ready to bend over! grin

Hot dry weather in the corn belt has run the price up from $5 to over $7/bu recently. It was up 34cents, just today.

I bought 1 bag of corn and 1 of protein at Academy today. Doubt that'll affect prices any :-)

Where I buy my corn its $8.55 for 50lb bag.

17% protein is the same price.
20% protein is $8.70.

It's doesn't make much sense any more for me to buy corn but to only use for bait I put out on the ground when I have hunters. Otherwise I am turning my corn feeders off or just run for 2 seconds each day and just feed protein.

I'm not using corn that much at all this year.

Yes, but it will drop from a much higher point than it would have if growing conditions were good and the crop were bigger.

Just like crawfish the days of 5 dollar bags of corn are gone...They know the general public will pay for it no matter how high it is....They could have record crops and by the time its gets passed to the consumer it will be high...

Corn is starting to tassel here in Iowa and we have been very dry for a long time....they are saying it has not been this dry since 1988. If it continues, corn yields will be impacted.

It's stiill cheaper then it should be..

It's still way below inflation....and really really below inflation if you take out the last two corn ethonal years

I like to use Indian Corn....It's much cheaper and I think the different colors captivates them...they stay at my feeder longer and seem to really like the flavor.....

Indian Corn does not need as much rain due to the fact it has adapted thru the years to drought conditions so it can survive.

Do they make ethanol out of Indian Corn? I wonder what the octane rating is?

My wife's parents recently drove through Missouri, Indiana and Illinois....they said the stalks weren't but waist high/shoulder high in rare cases and the cobs were about 6" long at most. That sounds all good and well but they're also burning up. Expect high prices this year......just think, someday when we're paying $20/50#, we'll look back and call these the good ole days.

It is bad there for sure but they have another 2 months to grow.
