Just wondering what is it that makes Glocks so "superior" in a lot of people eyes?
Now I have not owned a ton of handguns, my list is a Colt Combat Commander, XD9, XD40, HK USP 9 and my girls Taurus TCP .380.
Im down to the HK and the Taurus at the moment and I have a real itch to pick up either a G17 or a G19 to keep on me/in the vehicle.
Now part of me just says pick up another XD9 and be done with it, but I really want to see what the Glock craze is all about. So I leave it up to you guys to either talk me into or talk me out of buying one!

People are crazy about them because people are crazy about any guns/ammo/gear that military or police use. If cops still carried 38 special revolvers, that's what would be popular.
I have owned a few Glocks and can't stand the Gen 1-3. They simply dont feel good in my hand. Now the Gen 4 is a different story. No strap configuration fits my hand like a glove. I had a Glock 22 for awhile but it was too large of a gun for me. I'm looking at getting a Glock 23 as it's a little more compact.

I seem to recall a guy that completed both the Springfield and Glock armorers course and after seeing the designs up close and personal....vowed to never buy a Springfield XD. But that was something I read on the internets so....

Really, I guess I'm the exact oposite. I loved the GEN3 and now own a GEN4 and don't like it as much. I love them because they are natural pointers for me alot of people say the same about 1911's well glocks are that for me. I actually hit a dove with a glock 22 from about 85 yards. I'm sure it was just luck, however it did happen and I shoot the glock really well so thats what I use.

I like that the Gen 4's have the interchangeable backstraps because I have gorilla hands. The reason I bought my USP was because of the grip being big it fit nicely. Thats why I was leaning more towards the G17 than the G19, bigger gun for bigger hands. I doubt I will ever CC, but even if I did im 6'3 235lbs so I assume I wouldnt have a problem concealing without a little bigger gun. I tried to like my 1911, but it just never felt good in my hands and I never was accurate with it.

I'm a Glock fan because they go "boom" everytime! The 3 times it didn't go "Boom", it was my fault or the ammo's fault. They are not the sexiest pistol, but they flat out work. And they shoot pretty darn good, too. The XD line of pistols are nice. They have the same grip angle as a 1911. So, if you are used to shooting a 1911, an XD will be easy to shoot. The Glocks have a steap grip angle, and some people do not like this. Oh, and don't buy a Taurus. I've seen more issues with them (my 357 Mag and my brothers 45 acp, and several friends' pistols).

Dont worry Taurus isnt even on my radar, I highly dislike them. But the woman wanted a "cute" pistol to keep in her car and what better than a "shiny and pink" one lol. I liked my XD's, but disliked my 1911. Weird I know considering they have the same grip angle. If I wasnt wanting to try something new I would just go down and pick up another XD9. Maybe a XDM9. But like I said I personally know so many people that swear by the almighty Glock, it has me wanting to give it a shot.

Glocks go bang everytime. Accurate straight out of the box and much like a Timex watch, they can take a lickin and keep on tickin.

I seem to recall a guy that completed both the Springfield and Glock armorers course and after seeing the designs up close and personal....vowed to never buy a Springfield XD. But that was something I read on the internets so.... I remember that and it was a guy on this forum. I just can't remember who it is. Personally, I'm a huge Glock fan and lover. The thing that convinced me to get one years ago was the write up to the Glock torture test. That was simply amazing. I no longer clean my G19 and still feel 100% confident in it as it's my daily carry piece. Other than not really having a safety, I just don't think there is anyting wrong with it. And when you factor in the price, to me it's clearly the best value. In my mind, there is nothing wrong with things like the dD. At the end of the day, they're just Glock imitators so I have no reason to divert from something I know is perfect for it's purpose. essentially the if it ain't broke don't fix it philosphy. In today's market it's hard to go wrong a bunch of Glock's competitors (striker fire, polyemers). But then again why deviate from the original?

Glocks are good, but the legend exceeds reality, and there are many good comparable pistols.
Try several to see which feels best in hand and is most accurate for you.
I took a three day pistol class a few years ago with a broad mix of pistols present, with about half of the class of almost 30 shooters using Glocks. All but one Glock, a G19, jammed at some point, as did every other pistol, except for one 1911 - a Baer SRP.
Every owner was making excuses about ammo, this that and everything else. The reality is that in 1,000 rounds of shooting and moving over three days, a good grip is not always maintained and stuff happens even to Glocks. Take a class to learn about malfunction drills. They could be a lifesaver.
For a plastic gun, also look at Kahr. To me, the trigger is better out of the box as is the accuracy compared to the two G19's I own.

You like the Kahr DAO trigger better than the glock? My friend has a Kahr and I can't really shoot it well because of the trigger.

Oh, and my G35 has thousands, of thousands of rounds down the barrel without cleaning it. I occasionally will wipe it down after a muddy shooting match with a rag and put a drop or two of gun oil on the rails and work the slide back and forth. They shoot better dirty, trust me!

True. I can't believe every pistol jammed besides a 1911... what were you guys shooting submerged in mud?

Same here. My G19 has proably about 6-7k through it over its lifetime and stopped doing any cleaning about 4k rounds ago. The only cleaning I've done it wiping the outside with my shirt because i like the black powder outside to make my black gun look ugly.
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

Two did not jam - a G19, and a 1911.
Most jamming related problems are probably related to a bad grip, bad body position, not stiff arm, or similar body mechanics issue. Shooting on the move, or laying down or other unusual body angles is a dramatically different issue than standing still square to a target.
Some were noticeably worse than others. A Wilson plastic pistol was by far the worst.

true, I'm also guessing someone that dropped enough money for a Les Baer probably knows how to shoot and atleast keep a good firm grip.

Yes, if you "limp wrist" a semiauto, it has trouble cycling, no matter what pistol. The 2 jams I had related to this when shooting weak hand unsupported. The other jam...uh, we won't talk about!

Im a glock guy but honestly my fav pistol to shoot is a Beretta. But i keep my glock closer because I have seen the i have over 10k rounds thru it from +P+ hp to dirty lead reloads with out a hiccup, ever. So i just trust it. I have actually have a large batch of ammo that will only shoot in my glock. It will misfire and jam in my Sig, Colt, and HK
never trust a man that rents pigs....

Glocks are made by human hands. I had issues with a 27, and my buddy's 36 has been back to the factory twice for feeding issues. They are as reliable as any other modern pistol made using the highest quality materials and manufacturing practices, maybe more so, but not by an order of magnitude. The 19 is an ideal size and a very functional pistol for all around use.
