in the Austin area, hard to beat Catfish parlor (several locations including Georgetown), Springhill in Pflugerville is right up there too ... a little hole in the wall place in Georgetown called Bob's Catfish n More would have to be as one of my all time favorites out of all the restaraunts ... all time best was my dad's & his cooking crew (used to do all sorts of local event catering, catfish or BBQ).

Ok guys. Here is the skinny on Big Pines in uncertain on caddo. George and Mrs. Betty ran the place. It was by far the best whole catfish in Texas. George passed away some years back. Mrs. Betty then ran it until she passed and "willed" it to her daughter in law. Upon passing, the daughter In law sold the place in a VERY short amount of time. The place then caught fire and burned to the ground and the staff were in need of work. Many of them left to go to the new place, "Riverbend" around the corner. Good catfish until the last time I ate there. The staff that went to Riverbend were the coleslaw maker, hushpuppy maker, and others. Yes, the original big pines had specific people who did each thing. In most recent months Big Pines has "supposedly" built themselves back up and is said to be wonderful again. Haven't tried it yet as I now make my home in Dallas. But, I'm sure when I go back in there again I will imagine george sitting on the stool behind the register and mrs. Betty greeting us while my brother and I attempt to talk our parents into a "chupa" pop. Guys, you have got to at least experience life on caddo. You will step back into the 50's for sure and visit Big Pines Lodge on Big Cypress...

Wife and I ate at Catfish Plantation in Waxahachie yesterday. Quite a place with the haunting and such. Fried fish was good in both cajun and regular, onion rings, fried pickles and jalepenos good. Save room for dessert, several cobblers available with cinnamon ice cream, but the bread pudding is what you'll return for.

Catfish Platter in Kingston, Ok. If you don't like their catfish...
They're only open Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday. They're on Hwy 377 just across the Willis Bridge over Texoma. We have friends that drive all the way up from Dallas to eat there.
Practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes permanent.

AJ's Fish House in Alba, right on the shore of Lake Fork. Fish, shrimp, frog legs when they have em, baked taters and pecan or peach cobbler for dessert. Their fish is great! I have to agree, best I've had in Texas anyways. In my neck of the woods, Vernon's in Conroe is pretty good. In Arkansas, a place called the Fish Net in Arkadelphia. The best anywhere would be at Boyette's on Reelfoot lake in Tennessee, make a fishing trip out of it, and bring your cooler.
