I was 10.
My daughter was 10.
My son was 10.

I think 10 is a good age, at least for my family...

My old Daddy started me bird hunting w/him at 5, I think I was more of the bird dog..I learned to deer hunt by myself. I started my son's very young and spent a lot of time on a bench with them and my rifles prior and they still got nervous and still do..darn, wish I did..DD

13years old, 1982 Basket 7 point.... still have the Ruger M77 243. I still remember getting the shakes and excitement. Once it all comes together you're hooked, enjoy your time outdoors as thats an important part of learning and understanding what its all about.

I was 10 the first time my dad took me. He gave me a 410, a pocketful of 7 shot in my right pocket, and a handful of slugs in my left. Sat me down in front of a big old oak and told me to shoot all the squirrels. If I saw a deer, load a slug. Then he left me there. I shot two squirrels, and missed a deer. I had assumed that he had gone and hunted another part of the property, but I found out 25 years later that he had only gone about 25 yards behind me and sat and watched me the whole time. smile My son is now 4, and he has gone with me on "squirrel hunts" which amounts to the two of us walking around the woods with me carrying that same old .410 for about an hour. I love it!

I was 12 when I shot my first rifle buck. 7.62x39mm, 9 point, extremely tall tines, very narrow, prolly 130-135.

I was 13 when I shot my first bow buck. It was a youth bow of some sort. 8 point, thick horns, about a 125 class buck.

Both were in Coleman, near Big O's in Valera, out towards OH Ivie.

Killed my first doe at 6 with a 30-30. 3 more doe the next two seasons then my first buck at 9 with a .243. Took my son to the blind for the first time when he was two and he is 4 now. Expect to put a gun in his hands in the blind within two to three years.

Killed my first after just turning 7 with a single shot 16g shotgun. My son got his first about 1 month after turning 6 with his .223. My daughter was 8 when she shot her first and only deer.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Similar but related question for everyone who has been responding - how many deer hunting trips did you take before you finally got your first deer?
