16 years old, doe, .244 Mauser
I had been deer hunting for a couple of years, but never saw many bucks and we hunted in a buck only county. Finally got an invite from a family member to another county where you could take does and I was able to connect.

I started hunting later than most of you it seems. My father did not hunt but still bought me a 12 gauge Mossberg for my 13th birthday. I bought a 30.06 when I was 17 and shot a doe with it.

I took my first deer this past January at the young age of 42. 110 pound doe at 150 yards with my Weatherby 308. It took me a good 5 minutes to calm my nerves enough to take the shot. I hit her with a high shoulder shot that destroyed about 4 inches of spine. She was DRT. Good thing too, there was no exit wound and we didn't find the entrance wound until we skinned her.

I think I'll always remember how the shot sounded really weird in the blind and how there was no recoil.

Thanks,
Rich

Got started a little later then you guys. I was probably 18-20 years old when I saw my first deer on the ranch. Driving home from a ballgame one night, I saw my first doe about 300 yards from the ranch house. Don't think Dad believed me until he saw her himself a couple of weeks later. Dad was as excited to see her as I had been. Sure wish he could see what we are doing with the wildlife on his ranch 50 years later.

Sad to say ... 24yo.
Dad hunted just about everything else, but not deer.
F.I.L hunted and asked me to go along. Borrowed my Dads 870. Saw alot of deer- got my blood pumping.
Took my first deer the second season after my wife and I got married. Shot a small button buck that year with the rifle (Glenfield 30A in 30-30) my wife bought me for our first Christmas as husband and wife.

I shot my first, a doe when I was 7 with an old 16g single shot with 00 buck.
My boy was 6 when he got his first with his .223
My daughter was 9 when she shot her first and only deer with my boy's 223.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

My first deer was a doe and I was 8yrs old and I want to say it was in Sisterdale, TX. My family laid off deer hunting for a few years. After that the next deer I killed was a 8 point buck when I was about 13-14 in Fredericksburg, TX. Not a big buck but when its your first it dont matter (or it shouldnt in my opinion) at that age. I was stoked!!!

I was 12 years old, with a Marlin 30-30 I shot a button buck in McCullough County. Dad said to shoot the doe on the right and well I got my left and right confused and shot him instead. In my defense I was super excited and well at 100 yards it looked like an old beat up doe. Needless to say dad wasn't to happy.

My first was a nubbin' buck with a 30.06,180 grain bullet...The exit wound was as big as a coffee can. It was exciting though.
