Who said that? Angie said it is not used to " teach" fetch. Same concept with ecollar, it is not used to teach commands. ECollar is used on "known commands", pup learns to perform commands faster, like sit, here, heel and fetch to avoid correction from ecollar.. The key is that pup is in control, they know how to avoid correction (ecollar) by performing "known command" swiftly. If you use the collar (aka force) on commands that are not known, pup will not know how to avoid the correction (ecollar) and result is a confused dog. This is an important concept about "force" many seem to miss. Same with a heel stick, that is force.

Angie correct me if im wrong. Hey I'm a amature at this like most here, but I do listen to pros and buy training material from pros to learn.

I had a pointer from the time he was no more than 2 months old. He never carried anything around in his mouth, and I don't ever remember him picking up a bird. I take it back...I do remember him eating one when he was still young. He was not punished, much to the dismay of my friend who shot the bird, as I recall.
He was a great bird finder throughout the six years that I had him, and at the risk of revealing my ignorance, try as I may, he never seemed interested in bringing birds. I tried using force fetch techniques I saw demonstrated on videos on more than one occasion, but the net result was always exaspiration on my part as well as him cowing (and he was quite bold). So, I am thinking, after reading the posts above, maybe I should have tried something else. What would a more knowledgeable person have done? Maybe his behavior was a form of blinking. I don't know, but since he hunted hard, and was a great bird finder, and generally two dogs would be on the ground, it never was a huge problem. Just an irritating one.
