Thought you might like to see a just over 2 year collection of rattlesnake rattles. There are 97 total and the largest one has 17 rattles left and missing 2 off the end of the rattle at least. As you can tell most were fairly large snakes. One years I killed 52 of them one year and only had less than 7 or 8 that were under 4 1/2' long. Also killed 2 snakes together 2 days before Christmas with one of them not having any rattles only a pink stub on the tail. Wanna come hog hunting Txkiller? grin

That is the result of killing off 365 hogs in 3 yrs at the same time. They moved more.

Big stack going! Do you eat them? That's quite the nice starter for a evening of grillage!

Second, do you tan their hides? You could have quite the numbers to make something cool out of those numbers.

I have eaten rattlesnake but no these. I let a guy have them and I think he sold the skins to a buyer. I have 2 skins tanned in my living room. Used Liquid Snake Tan from Maverick Trading Co.

Snakes were there before we added more water due to the amount of rat dens and pricky pear. He would be SOL for a turkey hunt since I only saw turkey on 2 times and one day only each time.

Yes it does and excellent job and after soaking a hide in it you can save the leftover and re-use it. Soft tan also.
Here is a link to their company info. Call them and ask about the Snake Tan. http://fordinfo.com/scmaver.htm

Hell of a collection stxr! What county?

I know down in LaSalle County on the ranches I've worked on it was not uncommon at all to kill 5 or more in a given weekend and VERY FEW were under 4 1/2' long! You might go a month or two without seeing them but come late Sept or early Oct the SOBs would come out bigtime!

I thought that purhaps why we hardly ever killed a small one might be due to the high number of Blue Indigos in the area. I've seen as many as 10 Indigos in a day down there and have seen them as big as 8'+ easily! Figured maybe they ate all the small rattlebugs and left only the big papas!

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

It was in eastern La Salle. We had lots of Blue Indigos and a few Bull snakes. I think they had some effect on the smaller ones but I think hogs did also. I also saw Caracara carrying Coachwhips up in the air flying away with them. I would think they ate the little ones also.
