I started my wife off with a 22-250 at the range then had her fire a 243 a few times by the end of the day.
Later that year she shot a spike with the 243...now I am not allowed to use it.

I thought you were wanting to trade your wife for a gun She's smoking hot so I'd need some really nice guns to make the deal even.

The .410 isn't a kids/beginners gun. Its an "i'm an expert" gun. I think i calculated its like a 67 gauge.
28 gauge might work. Ther is always there internet, and reloading might be an option too. Also, if you reload, you could make some light 20 gauge for your wife.

OK, I've decided to build her an AR. Already have a Spikes lower receiver on its way to me. So now to decide what caliber and how to configure it.
My main goal is...I dont want this build to turn into an AR that I want. I really want this to be her gun but I also want this to be a surprise. So my plan is to tell her that I am building a gun for my mom. Have her pick out all the things she would want on an AR if it were hers (i.e. stainless barrel, carbine/middy/dissy/rifle, furniture color/brand, etc). But all the while, she'll actually be building her own rifle. Then I surprise her with it on her birthday.

Build a 14.5" with a pinned/welded MD for a total of 16". Light weight barrel and handguard. Keep the weight down out on the muzzle end. A LW 16" would work also. Fixed or folding sights, scope, Red Dot or ACOG or EoTech.
