I can tell you from this pass weekends hunt, that shot placement is the key, no matter whet you hunt with. I shot the biggest boar I have ever seen on hoof Sunday morning with a 45-70 at 30 yards. I hit him in the shoulder quartering towards me, with a 325 grain lever evolution bullet. I saw him buckle to his knees, then he jumped up and ran off. I heard him hit the ground and kick around, waited 20 minutes and went to look for him, I guess he got back up and ran off. I have a buddy who who a 200lber a few weeks ago with a 17hmr between the eyes and it didn't take another step, go figure. In the neck for now on!

I thought the LR 308 was going to be the perfect hog gun but that turned out to be a big let down, while accurate as all get out and more than enough fire power it was about as handy as a 12 lb fence post. Way too heavy and cumbersome and the damn magazine hung up on every thing. Since my wife won't give me back my STYER 243 I'm setting up a nice little tang saftey Ruger in 243 I picked up about a year ago. I may not be able to get as many rounds out the barrel but at least I'll be able to get the damn barrel out the window. I've went full circle with hog guns and wound up right back where I started from.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

One that goes bang and is accurate
What you really need is a 300 Winchester Magnum. That is the best caliber on the planet, probably even in the solar system and maybe the universe. Go get him! Shoot him in the face!

I own plenty of rifles and anyone of them will kill ahog but my next one for hogs will be a Remington 750 carbine in 35 Whelen.

Ideal would be something belt fed and water cooled, but I don't have one.

It's pretty thick where we hunt so my Marlin 45-70 is the ticket for me. The AR is fun to take but we never get off more than 3-4 shots so the need for a high-capacity mag hasn't been an issue.

Only usually get one shot off at night before the rest go off like a star burst in every direction. lol
So Ill stick with my one shot drop-em gun. A Ruger #1 with a 180 grain .300 win mag. Head, heart, shoulder makes no difference they run about 1 foot straight down.
