I failed to get a picture as I didn't even think about it, but maybe we can id this plant. I finally landed the lease I have been after for a long time. We made it into one of the abandoned beaver ponds yesterday, not an easy task. After reading up I have found beavers will damn an area, it silts in and they move further down stream to do it all over again. Essentially they have created 2 ten acre clearings in the oaks and woods that when flooded will be an even depth. Even during the height of the drought the water was still flowing through so we have free water. The landowner said he has never seen the water stop flowing out of the ground in the 50 years he has been there. It just bubbles out of the ground. The question is about the grass or plant that has taken over the ten acres of moist soil. I have always called it buffle grass but I am positive that ID is incorrect. It grows in separate clumps on the ground but the tops fan out and meet each other. You can easily walk through the clumps but pushing through the tops. They only get to knee or thigh high. Green spikey thing tubes are the leaves and they come to a dull spear point. Very common as I have seen them all over Texas, I just dont know the name or how to kill them. I am pretty sure someone on here will id it right away. I have never ever had my 4 wheeler stuck beyond winch help. The patch I was going across had a dry crust on top and I had no idea what I was in store for. A Kubota couldn't pull it out. We had to hook a jeep to the Kubota and the Kubota to my 4 wheeler to get it out. The second picture is nothing pure sweet justice. My brother came down the hill to razz me about getting stuck. He fell for the same trap as he was walking up to me to talk schmack. We had to get him out with a rope. Sweeeeet justice is all that is.

I think it is close but I can't see the pictures in detail when I look it up. The spikes on these things are tougher than an old goat.

Its definately not buffel grass, it doesn't really get that tall and its growth form is nothing like this plant. Next time you look at the plant look and see what shape the stems are. Really sounds and looks like bulrush to me..

Wayne I'm no expert, but I think it's marijuana. Man that's some thick mud, I bet Brett and Taylor could identify the mud.

If it was like that, it could be seep muhley. Is the area usually flooded or just wet?
I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.

If it was like that, it could be seep muhley. Is the area usually flooded or just wet? On top it is dried but underneath it is muddy silt. That is why my 4 wheeler just buried up to its arse. My guess it has been well over a century the beavers have been in there. The pond I am re-jiving had water 40 years ago when the guy I am leasing from was a kid. The pond silted in and the beavers moved down stream a little ways. The dam is busted and does not hold water. But it stays wet in there.

in your picture I see wax myrtle (Myrica cerifera) an evergreen shrub that likes to be around seeps with sandy soil, soft rush (Juncus effusus), it's the darker green stuff that if you pull the stem it will be hollow and completely round. I think what you want to identify it some type of sedge. The stems will feel like they have edges when you roll them in your fingers, and are triangular in shape. There are many different types of sedges and they are usually identified by the nutlets on the seed head. They are of moderate to minor importance to waterfowl depending on the size of the nutlets. It is confirmed, it is soft rush. So I am only going to disc small areas where it is not growing too well. Ducks feed on soft rush so I want to leave it. I can plant a grain intermitantly between the soft rush stands. Come on duck season!!!
