"Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission voted unanimously to legalize suppressor use while hunting"

Texas: Use of Lawfully-Owned Suppressors While Hunting Legalized in the Lone Star State

Thank You to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission and NRA Members!

Today, after hearing your support for this NRA-backed common sense hunting reform, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission voted unanimously to legalize suppressor use while hunting. The benefits associated with suppressor use include increased accuracy due to reduced recoil and muzzleblast, protection from hearing damage and reduced noise pollution.

Prior to the adoption of this rule, lawfully-possessed suppressors were permitted for all other shootingactivities besides hunting game animals, including the taking of nuisance species. The adoption of this common sense proposal by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department helps in other states where the NRA is involved with similar pro-hunting measures. Legislatures in Oklahoma and Georgia are currently considering similar measures and Arizona has recently passed one which would enhance hunting opportunities because of the many benefits that suppressors provide.

The NRA strongly supported this regulation change to allow for the use of lawfully-owned suppressors for hunting in Texas. There is an incredible amount of misinformation on what suppressors doand how they may be acquired.Suppressors are not "silencers," as depicted in typicalHollywood action films. While suppressors do not eliminate the sound of a firearm, they do reduce the muzzle report in a manner similar tothe way that a muffler reduces exhaust noise from a vehicle.

Noise complaints are being used more frequently as an excuse to close shooting ranges, informal shooting areas, and hunting lands throughout the country. Increased use of suppressors will help to eliminate many of these complaints and protect hunting and shooting areas well into the future

Your eyesight starts getting weaker but your ability to
see through people's BS gets much better.

Have already revised lease rules and sent them out with an addition under the current ML season status.

No suppressor use then?

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

TRUE AND TRUE

I would think that the BATFE would now see the need to hire more people not that they did not need to do that months ago. I still think you should be able to walk into a store and buy one just like a gun. Too simple I guess.

BATF wait time is like 9 months now. It will probably be over a year. And currently they have a hiring freeze.

Holds folks more accountable and forces them to take kids during any open youth seasons instead of hunting for themselves.

Hate to rain on your parade but, you cannot hunt game animals in Texas with a suppressor. It is only a proposal at this time! I just copied this off the Texas Parks and Wildlife web site. I guess somebody forgot to tell them! Look up means and methods. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/regulations/fish_hunt/hunt/means/

Means and Methods
Firearms
Game animals and game birds may be hunted with any legal firearm, EXCEPT:
white-tailed deer, mule deer, desert bighorn sheep, and pronghorn antelope may NOT be hunted with rimfire ammunition of any caliber.
fully automatic firearms are NOT LEGAL.
firearms equipped with silencers or sound-suppressing devices are NOT LEGAL

It just now passed. I'm pretty sure they haven't updated the website or published the 2012-2013 hunting book yet. Settle down there buzz kill.

Did I miss something?

What does a suppressor have to do with accountability or youth seasons?

hate to say it but this is the first time I have ever agreed with you on anything.

America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards. Claire Wolfe

Your right it has nothing to do with being accountable or youth seaason.

I was reffering to this original post about suppressors.

Suppressors are legal for hunting in TEXAS!!!!!!!!

Yes Buzz Kill is not for Silencers used for hunting game animals!
Varmits, pigs, coyotes no problem!
Well its past my bedtime, another day enjoy!

Accountable for shots fired with full report heard by GWs in the area & other lease members. Noise pollution is required since no target shooting is allowed and youth brought into it is for the lack of a ML season & archery season.

Forgive me for my ignorance but how do you go about getting a suppressor? Cost? Make them for any caliber?

You have to fill out a Form 4, pay $200 and wait for approval, at least 6 months. If they ok it, you get your tax stamp. You also have to pay for the cost of the suppressor. They do make them in different calibers. They are most silent on a bolt action gun using subsonic ammo.

Go to SilencedAmerica.com and then call Scott Bittner..... He is the President of the newly formed ASA and a great guy. He can handle your trust work and get you the best price on any suppressor in the market today!

Great customer service and that is the difference between Scott and the rest.

The process of getting a suppressor is ridiculous. I'd like one but no way am I jumping though all the hoops and paying a $200 tax. I'd honestly rather just go black market. I won't do that either....just saying.

I just sent in two form 1's this week. They should get approved just in time to be hunting with some new intergrals this season.

I am curious. Why would I want one of these? What does it do for me that will enhance my hunting? Don't get me wrong, I think any gain in gun ownership and the like is a good thing. I can also see where they would be good in multiple shot situations but in my 40 years of hunting I can only remember shooting more than once three times while hunting deer. I would assume that most folks would say the same thing. Educate me please.
