Why would anybody get a 3006 when you can get a 308 in much handier packages that do the same thing.
I cant believe there are 3 pages of redundant 3006 statements.
Young hunter, I went from the 3006 to the 22250 because I hated the 3006 so much. I don't know Jack about 308. Educate me

Kid, if you can't discuss your age, you are too young to be here.

Kid, if you can't discuss your age, you are too young to be here. I'm kinda sensitive about discussing my age too.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

I bought 2 boxes of 55 grain 30.06 accelerator ammo about 2 years ago. Coyote's don't even know they are dead. It is marked at 4000+ ft per second. cool, talk about a barrel burner! Personaly, I think the the 30 caliber bullets tend to lob bullets more than most other calibers. . . and the 30-06 was not originally intended for the M1 Garand. (to stir the pot a little more)

Young hunter, I went from the 3006 to the 22250 because I hated the 3006 so much. I don't know Jack about 308. Educate me I suggest you go to Hornady, Federal, or Remington ballistics charts that have the compare feature. pick out your bullets speed and energy and drop rate. Then go to the maximum realistic number you would ever shoot at "meat" with. Look at the drop and energy numbers in the 400 yard range to see what its does. 400 is a long way in a hunting situation. This will paint a picture for you without asking age old questions.

. why get either wehn they make a 7mm-08? Main argument I get for both calibers are: "you can buy ammo at any walmart" I don't buy my ammo at walmart, so that has never been a factor for me. Its not like the 30-06 isn't a proven game killer, it has been there, done that. But fact of the matter is, a lighter recoiling round is just as effective on deer as a 06'. I've seen plenty of people not be able to shoot a 06' well. Mine kicks, not going to lie. not unbearable but not a cream puff either

it dosen't have the knockdown that the .7mm mag
Doesn't the 7mag loose alot with the heavier bullets? I don't know alot about the 7mag but, my 180grn bullet carries more energy at 300+yds than a compariable 7mag of the same weight????? I'm not an expert by no way shape or form.

Energy= mass x (velocity squared)
Technically a bullet with a lighter weight can have more energy then a heavier bullet, if the lighter is going.a certain percentage faster

I'm not an expert by no way shape or form. according to the long range experts(i'm not one of them) the .284 bullet in a heavier weight such as a 175 grain has a extreemly high ballistic coeffeciancy. again i'm no expert, Just what I've read and been told.

I've had two '06's, one was a standard weight sporter and the other was a model 70 Featherweight. The Featherweight had quite a bit more felt recoil than the other with the same ammo.

Assuming your talking about the 06 as the comparison cartridge your completely wrong the 7Rem mag pushes faster in the 175-180 class bullets with higher BC and SD which yield to better on game performance.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ exactly Dee
The 06 is a very good choice for the hunter that only wants to own one rifle. I like to won more than one rifle, and love to have something different.
I have never owned one and probally never will even though I have killed deer and watched elk killed with the 06.
