Gonna purchase a 22lr soon. Marlin60 or ruger 10/22. Any opinions? Mostly for fun shooting. Or any other rifles of this caliber

10/22 has many more after market mods available if you are into that sort thing. (I am, can't leave stock guns alone)

Reasons to buy the Marlin: $$$$, reputation for accuracy (deserved or not).
Reasons to buy the Ruger: one of the most successful designs around, reliable, good value for the money, scope mounting can be done first-class (don't have to deal with cheesy 3/8" dovetail rings), and as already mentioned it can be customized into an extremely accurate rifle.
If your gonna put a $50 scope on it and just shoot at cans and the occasional squirrel or something, buy the Marlin. If you want to see what can be done with an aftermarket barrel and some tinkering, by all means buy the Ruger.

The Model 60 trigger stinks. Accurate but trigger stinks. They make all kinds of accessories for the 10/22. Get the Ruger.

The Marlin Model 60 is the best selling 22lr rifle of all time, the Ruger 10/22 is the second best sell of all time. You will not go wrong no matter which one you go with. The 10/22 has all kinds of aftermarket parts. The Marlin seems to have more and more aftermarket parts poping up now days.

Love my 10-22 I purchased about 15 years ago. However, I *heard* in the last year or two that Ruger has cheaped out on some of the parts (barrel band, trigger, trigger guard, maybe more ???), replacing metal with plastic. Disappointing but I understand business trying to cut costs.
A family member has the Marlin and speaks highly of it.
Look at both. Depends on what you want to do, as pointed out by others.
Buy both, they're inexpensive.
Cheers - Mickey

10-22 and then turn it into any gun in the world you want to with the tons of aftermarket shells out there.

I've had both and I would have to say 10/22 for all of the reasons already listed, plus it is a little shorter and lighter.

For a cheap plinker a marlin 60 with tech sights would be fun. If you want to mod it, and blow tons of cash (dont ask me how i know this) get a 10/22.

Hard to go wrong with the 10/22. I don't really know if one shoots any better than the other but there are a ton of after market doodads for the 10/22 if you so desire.
Practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes permanent.

Go buy 2 or 3 Marlins for the price of a 10/22 and have a ball. Trigger aint that dang bad on em. And, If anything ever breaks you can go to dang near any pawn shop and walk out with another one for 40-50 bucks and have all the parts you need.

I have both and grab the marlin when I am going to carry it on the tractor or golf cart and risk damaging it. The ruger when I am going to do a lot of shooting. Either one does the job and shoots good. Do like a bunch of us and buy both!!

I'd say the 10/22 with BX25 mag. I have a Stainless Sporter and can't imagine why I would want to do better than a dime at 100 yards with an after market barrel?

Ive had both as well. 10/22 is more accurate, but I prefer the Model 60 because I like the tube magazine.

My brother has a marlin, I have a 10/22. I like that his was cheaper and has a tube magazine. However my brother has alot of trouble with his getting dirty and it jams up alot, and will get to where it will not even feed rounds pretty quickly, within 2-300 rounds. The 10/22 I think shoots a little better and I have poored thousands of rounds through it without cleaning it and it didnt have jaming issues.
I think you will be happy either way though.
