That is a male snake, Good find How can you tell? Not sure if its true or not but my grandfather use to tell me that females have four dark bands on their tails and males commonly have 5-6 bands.

Nah,, the real way to tell is the males will just bite yer butt, the females will rag on ya awhile first
America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards. Claire Wolfe

He asked me to join but I am busy everytime he goes...... There are a few places that you can sell them and at times they get up to $6-8 a pound. Last time I sold any, we got $4/lb. They have to be alive though

that's awesome. My dad and I had two about that size creep up under our deer stand (WHILE WE WERE IN IT) about two years ago during deer season on a warmer day.
They were evidently following a scent trail as they slithered under the stand stayed a while then slithered away.
They were going down a couple of deer trails nearby. Thank God for a well built stand when ole no shoulders and his friend are literally right under your feet. We have learned to keep even our ground blinds at least a foot off the ground so we can see what's under them.
