Only thing that blows my mind was the prices of sks and ak47's there for a while. Seemed like there were jackasses at every gun show trying to sucker some poor bastard into paying $600 for an sks or even more for an AK.

Ahhhh yes the good old days!

When I bought the AR in my sig pic in 2001 I paid $1.99 per box for Winchester white box the same day I bought the gun. Man I wish I could go back in time!

When I went to the LE Academy in 1989 you could buy Colt Pythons, S&W 686 and equivalent for about $250-$275. Glocks were about $300 (LE pricing). I can still get most model Glocks for $398 (LE pricing). Some are more expensive. Used Mini-14's were under $300.

I think it's cars/trucks that have gotten ridiculous. My first new vehicle was a 1991 GMC extended cab, 2wd, 5 liter with 5 spd manual. Cost me $13,000 out the door. Two years later I upgraded to a Chevy Z71 extended cab, 350, auto trans and paid $19,000 out the door. My last new truck was a '07 GMC 2500HD crew cab 4x4 and it cost me right at $30,000 out the door.

Don't get me started and bass and bay boats. They're just crazy expensive.

Bologna!

I have been into the gun thing since about 1995 and off the top of my head I cant think of any gun that has gone up 1000% in that time period. Even the Colt Python which seems to be bringin crazy money right now has only gone up a little over 100% in the last 10 years.

I would love to hear about these guns that have gone up 1000% in the last 10-15 years. I am sure there are a few (VERY FEW) but as a whole gun prices are no where near 1000% higher in the last 10-15 years.

I believe prices go up this time of year because people have disposable income due to tax returns. Granted they've gone up overall, but I'd like to see prices in the fall compared o the spring when everyone has money.

Our current political regime's monetary policy has caused the price of commodities to skyrocket. If you weaken the dollar, metals with real monetary value go way up in price. You print funny money to stimulate the economy and presto you have thugs stealing copper wire and pipes out of walls. 1997-1998 I bought a Ruger GP100 for $375, Beretta 92FS $425, Remington 1100 $425, Winchester 70 at walmart for $325.
Conversely 7.62 x 54 made in 1945 is selling for $18 a box today and I could have bought the same batch for $3 a box 15 years ago. That ammo didnt go up in manufacturing cost thus proving it is demand at work.

You are right JCB. I work for several gun companies and have since 1990. The average price of a Bolt action rifle has actually gone done about 12% in the last 10 years. The average price of a handgun has gone up about 3% per year so 30% max. In 1994/95 an AR15 was selling for over 1000.00 now most brands sell for less than 900.00. The selling price of used guns has gone up some but only to those that knew how much they cost 20 years ago and most people ask Blue Book pricing and not real world which is less than the blue book. There are a few exceptions to this but on average gun prices have risen a lot less than most other luxury items. That said if our current Prez is reelected you will see a sharp rise in gun prices.

Someone correct me if I am wrong,
Did the Rem 788 sell for less than $100 bucks new ?
Mohawk .22's less than $75?

The current pricing on these two items really surprised
me last year when I attend my first gun show in about 10 years.

I am not sure about the Mohawk 22 because I never bought one new however I can tell you that the 788's were definitely $99.00 in 1979 when I bought 6 of them at Sears in Abilene. I bought 3 in 223 and 3 in 243 and one of the 243's was the 18" barrel carbine.
They all came with a cheap 3x9 scope already mounted in the green and yellow Remington boxes. I still have 2 of the 223's and the carbine 243. I am pretty sure any of them would bring $650 these days.
