They will chew there leg off with jaw type traps because of the pain but never seen one do that with a snare. You ever run snares? They dont gently hold his paw..

Was he caught by the leg? Curious if the old wisdom about a coyote chewing its own leg off to get away is true. if the trap breaks the bone they like coon will chew it off. back in the day lost a few coon to the trap being to big and rather than catching and holding would break the bone and away they went.
