Jager is like liquid xanax. Wake up looking like you fell in a tiger exhibit and crawled through a leech filled swamp to get out.

I think i am being misunderstood alittle here.I totally agree that spot doesnt belong to me it is public i dont think that I own the marsh. Thats why i would leave early to get set up because legally its for public use. There was this guide acouple of years ago that pulled up to the blind that he built and there were hunters already there he told them to leave and they refused ,well it got pretty heated and the guide ended up threatening the other hunters he said somthing like i ought to shoot you!the hunters called the gamewardens and the guide from what i unterstand got in some big trouble! if someone was in the blind that i built i would ask them to leave but if they refused i would just go somewhere else i think that guide was crazy I did not side with him at all. I guess what gets frustrating is that why dont people go out and kindof do their own thing there are so many awsome spots to hunt!

Welcome to the forum Sprig. Duck season is over so we have to entertain ourselves in some way or another. Unfortunately that just turns out we find a scab and pick at it, you being the scab this time. It is all in fun.
I used to be the kind to refuse to hunt another's blind. In recent years I hunt the bay so seldom I will do it on occasion. If somebody did in fact pull up and tell me it was their blind I would move along. I know the frustrations and would not pass that on behind a legal curtain. It would and has sucked donkey snot to build a blind and not make it there before somebody who didn't pay or work for it.
I can tell you I did it once this year. I tell you it sure made life a lot easier. I still would not tell somebody I would stay if it wasn't mine.
So don't let our ribbing on you run you off.

I can be a pretty sarcastic butthole sometimes. I really only mean to poke fun and stir the pot. Glad you didn't delete your account. It gets real lonely in here really fast after duck season. If you see a Gator Trax boat with a go devil motor on Pringle, fifth lake, Conti, Corey cove or twin sisters flag me down. I am about to go hammer some reds as soon as the water temp bumps up just a little more. A few more hot days and right before another front will do the trick. See you on the water.

Thank you Wal,pretty new here was actually thinking of deleted my account. Lol Thanks for the kind words looking forward to some more interesting conversations! lol Bull, Welcome. Glad to have you. Believe it or not we are actually one of the more friendly duck hunting forums on the net due to a lot of moderator involvement keeping the peace and keeping it family friendly, but one still has to be thick skinned in here with all the strong opinions. It's all in fun and healthy debate. Don't let these barnies get to you.

Building and leaving a blind on public land is like dropping brush piles in a lake. They're both there for public use now. Easy fix on the blind, build it, hunt it, and tear it down after that hunt. If I pull up to one of my brush piles in a tournament and find another angler on it, I go and hit another spot. It's on public waters and they all have the same right as you or me do.
Oh, and if us duck hunters on this forum rub you the wrong way, just tell us to stick it where the sun don't shine. Waders and thick skin must be worn year round on the migraatory forum.

I'm sorry too Bull!! Man, this thread just got way too touchy, feelly!! Reminds me of a chic-flick man!! Seriously though, my buddies and I actually had a sweet blind built and went back next day to see someone else setting up decoys in front of it and bag was in blind. We should've got up 15 min earlier. We just kept going to the next cove and had a decent blind set up in a half hour. Ended up visiting with the other guys later that morning and they were pretty cool. They didn't do much better there either. I do agree with one thing though, gotta get a thick skin quick!! Most of what goes on here is B.S. and a little harmless venting. Welcome to the forum buddy.

Only problem I had with mine this past season was that it wasn't anywhere near the water for most of the season.

Summer project...build a layout boat Never have an issue with a blind again I started off with intentions of building a layout boat. You can't possibly make one, with fiberglass resin, cheaper than you can buy one of the puddlers. I paid $450 for mine used. Fiberglass resin is bumping at about 80 bucks a gallon. Then you got the fiber sheets and the lumber. Not to mention the time it would take to build a boat that has already been designed.

I didn't get a photograph of it last night but I took an old camo net and tied the rest of my raffia grass to the netting to be used as a throw to cover up with while laying in the boat. It is the same grass on the boat. I should be able to sit right in the spread without being seen.

yes you can...just have to lesson your quality of wood And not go Marine grade plywood. I'll take pictures of mine tomorrow. This Summers project will be making a great lakes style layout boat.(but all composite) To complaint my hybrid type boat. Thanks for the warm welcome! Bobo I don't know how your going to build it ofr less. The dollar amount will probably come in at say $250. Unless it is a hobby project my time is worth a whole lot more. that the additional $200. Not to mention the Carsten's is pre engineered. If you get into your project and discover this should have been "That" and that should have been "This", you have to re-engineer. Now your costs run way over plus the time. Again I understand if it is a labor for hobby, fun and satisfaction. If that is the case we should all be on your side. After all duck hunting is never a gambler's straight. If we tried to put a dollar amount to duck hunting we would have all quit a long time ago.

Ok I'll throw my two cents worth into this discussion; I hunt public exclusively and I learned real quick it's first come first serve. Here is some things to consider to make it easier to hunt 'Public": The first couple of seasons I hunted from behind a piece of burlap camo that I carried in and out with me. That didn't seem to work to well so I tried something else that someone on this forum suggested. I became part of the terain. I found if available; that being in full camo and leaning against a tree or standing in the brush along the shore is just as effective as having a really good blind. I'd still like to have good laydown blind though for those situations where the ducks are attracted to an area where there is no cover. Another thing I do on public is "be there when nobody else is"......I don't hunt weekends at all anymore. Save some vacation days for duck season and use them in the first and early second segments and then when January 1st rolls around you can use the new vacation you have accumulated as well. I hunt random days in the middle of the week; usually, one or two days a week. Sometimes early first segment can be really slow around here so if I go a couple of times and don't see birds I'll cut back on the amount of vacation time I am using to hunt and save it until the last week of the first or carry it over until the second segment.

I started duck hunting as well this year all public. I was always the first in to my spot. In some cases I hunted a small isolated pond and had other hunters show up after me. They asked if we could hunt together, I said yes and we had a great time. They did not show up 15 min before LST, so it was no big deal.
The last day, I was hunting a main lake. There were some other guys in my area and we discussed where we were going to hunt and were not on top of each other so went to our respective areas. 10 min before LST, another group comes in and sets up so close to me that the shot from their shells was flying over me. They also cut me off from the ducks that were coming down the shoreline. Frustrating to say the least...

Let's put it this way go trim the trees, paint the house, stain the deck...or build duck boats And I don't like the design of the castens. Great thing about layout boats is many have gone before you, there for lots of designs and resources out there. On thing about production made stuff its about material efficiency... So that one size fits all seldom fits all

I'll agree when you compare it to yard work. I can't with the Carsten's puddler though. I am big, real big. I fit perfectly in the boat. I was actually surprised. I might look like the fat guy on the minibike in the Guiness book of world records but i fit in the boat really well.
