I am also interested in hearing about them as well since I'm considering doing the same. I will tell you I found some uppers at ar15.com that seem to be budget friendly and they seem to have a variety.

I have a plum crazy lower and it works great. I've put 150 or do rounds through it with no problems. The only thing I don't like about it is the plastic hammer and stuff. Other than that mine has been good.
As for uppers you can get a dpms oracle for a little over 400 and a sportical for a little under 400. The only difference is the oracle has brass deflector and forward assist while the sportical is slick sided. Personally I like the look of the oracle better.

I have one a 6.5 Grendel build I did for my son. It works great. I put in a timmy trigger and had to sand the mag well a little and that is nothing compaired to over all pounds on this rig for my 10 year old son. Remember on a AR the upper and barrel is what makes a tack driver and I have made many ARs for friends.

I honestly don't understand why someone would buy a Plum crazy lower when you can build your own all steel lower from PSA for about $179 give or take a few dollars. And if you catch the lowers on sale it will save you another $30. Do yourself a favor and buy a good product. I've heard tons of bad reviews on Plum Crazy. It's got a plastic hammer, of course it will work but for how long??

I have one with about 250 rounds down range. No problems.

I would like to get another few hundred through it, but I do not go to the range that often.

I'm pretty sure PSA lowers are made out of aluminum.

So I've sold about 150 of these over the last year and have not had any more problems than any other lower. I've even done a full auto build with one

"Plastic" and polymer really mean two different things. Plastic is the junk your kid's toys are made out of. The polymer they use in these lowers is a lot tougher. In fact they are hell to engrave. I can't even get Ident Marking to try anymore.

Here's another way to look at it, what kind of a handgun do you carry? Glock? Springfield? Some other POLYMER pistol? smile

Yes the hammer is polymer but they come with a lifetime guarantee.. if it ever really does wear out then you can get it fixed. You can send it to them or I have some replacement parts as well just let me know.

BTW if you do change any of the fire control parts make sure to change all of them because you do not want to have polymer and metal mixed.

I do have a few in stock btw, if you want one let me know!

These are great lowers for the price. I have sold over 200 of these and not a single one has come back with an issue. Lightweight and can take some punishment! Trigger is easily replaced if you don't like the plastic.

Ive got two of them and love them. One is mated to a Chiappa 22LR upper and my grandson and I have a blast shooting Tango cans and plastic bottles. The other is a lightweight "entry carbine mated to DPMS upper with a 16 inch barrel with a welded Miclek brake, red dot etc. I put a DPMS LPK in that one but I dont think it was really necessary. Both guns have many rounds down range and shoot great.

My understanding is when Glock's patent right on their polymer formula went out if date, the formula was made public and that is wht Plum Crazy lowers are made from. They should be the same as a Glock lower.

I might just have to try one,the price is cheap. I just don't want my first build to cost me way above my budget.

All lowers are made from an aluminum alloy. I was wrong to call it steel. But regardless, it's not polymer. I looked long and hard when I was building my first AR and I heard many people complaining about Plum Crazy and I didn't want to run the risk of getting "one of the bad ones". Either way, my main point was, why buy a polymer lower when you can get a proven quality product milled to mil-spec lower in 7075-T6 for only around $30-$60 more??

Because then you can use that extra 60 bucks on some chicom knockoff crap! Duh!

Just get a real lower.

Get this + This = Lower for $186.99 with shipping I believe. Then all you gotta do is get it transferred and people will do that for $20-$30.

If you have some patience you might be able to catch the PSA lower for 49.99. Last year they had that sale on for Father's day. Also, I don't know how much you are into Magpul stuff but, This is pretty awesome. I wish I would have picked the MOE build for my first gun because I ended up getting it anyway but I bet I spent an extra $100 just to buy all the Magpul stuff. One word of advice, build it right the first time. And don't buy a cheap scope. I bought two cheap scopes before I finally went with a Leupold Mark AR.

Took me about 30 minutes. And I had never built one before. These are the videos I went by.

Just contact a local FFL and ask them if you can get a AR lower transferred and ask them how much the fee is. Then ask them for their address and email. You will need that for the order form from PSA. Also, PSA may already have an FFL on file for dealers around your area. Best thing to do is contact PSA by their customer service email. It may take a day or two to respond. You can try your luck at the customer service number but those guys have an expanding business and are way understaffed. You might get through to them though, you never know.

If PSA does NOT have an FFL on file for a dealer around your area, you can contact your local FFL dealer and ask them to send a copy of their FFL license to PSA.

If you want to, the MOE lower build kit can be shipped to you house. Same with an upper. The only thing that needs FFL is that stripped lower.

Looks like you are in Rockwall, Morgan on this forum (DallasShootingSupplies) is in Rowlett and does transfers for $10. You won't beat that.
