Its an 800yd gun, minor scope malfunction caused me not to kill a mule deer with it. CDS dial turned in the scabbard on my pack so I put it back in the case and pulled out the 270 short mag. Both are Remington 700 XCRs, 7mag just has a KDF brake on it and Jewell trigger. 270wsm is what you're starting to see pretty common in the custom lightweight sheep rifles.

A .300 ultra has about 40 ftlbs of recoil.
That's uncomfortable put a muzzle break on it... i had a 300 win mag with no muzzle break and im 5'6 150lbs... and that was no big deal for me to shoot over and over and most men are over 180lbs Lol, rifleman add another to the list!!!! Think I just took.theory to fact

I haven't seen a 7 mag in a hunting camp in a long time. Probably because there isn't a need for magnum calibers in Texas. No moose, elk, bears. I'm putting my 7RM in the safe and continue with either a .243 or .260.

We all know long range guns have some kick to them, but do you really notice it when shooting a critter??? I know I don't feel mine.. Just Sayin' No, you don't really feel it. Not for the shooting range and I would go with a magnum only if the game demanded it (yet my both deer I shot with a 7RM this year:)). For shooting small game like coyotes and deer at long distance you can use a light recoil gun that will still easily kill at 1000. Even if you don't feel the recoil chances are you will shoot much more accurately with the gun with much less recoil.

Most likely if there is a long shot possibility I will have a .260 or 6.5x55.

Would you really trust a .243 at 500yds on deer?? That seems unethical to me or extremely risky

I enjoy shooting my 260 more than my 300 mag for range time. It's all up to the person. The recoil on my 300 mag doesn't bother me at all. But the military got me use to serious recoil.. I have a 7RM too, love it. But my 300 is a sendero and HEAVY!! LOL..

They're alright, just something about shooting that small of a bullet as far as I tend to shoot doesn't set right. Mild recoil, but wish I would have went with the Wby ultralight instead of the Accumark.

Wind drift isn't all that bad, but pushing a 120 out of one somewhat defeats the purpose of getting a rifle built for speed.
