Heres one. This thing has been a money pit since day one.

Texas State Parks need $4.6 million to help keep parks open.

Shut it down and sell it off.
Ypu going to let me hunt on your land for $48 a year plus my license fee? Public lands are all that some of us can afford or have access to right now. Shutting it down would be foolish.

Appropriators still have the ultimate discretion. While the sales tax is estimated to bring in $250 million during the current biennium, the Legislature actually appropriated only $26 million per year for parks. That's 21 percent of revenues, not 94 percent.

Lawmakers faced a historic budget shortfall during the last session. Even so, the consistent diversion of revenue streams that are supposedly dedicated for parks, trauma care, highways and other purposes is a fundamentally deceptive method of taxation.

Texas parks were already underfunded before appropriators in the 82nd Legislature did their handiwork. As Express-News staff writer Gary Scharrer reported, Texas ranks last nationally in state park land and per capita funding for state parks. Now Parks and Wildlife officials are pleading for private donors to cover the shortfall and keep parks open.

It's sad to say, but donating money to TPWD is like giving a drunk or an addict another drink or fix.

They are bleeding and asking for a bandaid from those of us who are bleeding already right along with them. I say let them fail, then maybe there will be enough public outcry that someone will ask the hard questions and demand some hard answers from the politicians soaking the pulblc, and especially the sportsman for more money, while continuing cutting services.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.
