There is only two of us on this lease and the only grumbling is not getting to go enough or having to leave and come back to work.
Friend, I wouldn't harm thee for all the world, but thou art standing where I am about to shoot.

On ours, family land, and I'm the main one that grumbles about it.......It's one person who owns about 10 hanging and ladder stands combined, and has them dispersed all over the property in such a manner that the other hunters, including myself, fell like we are pigeon holed into our existing hunting areas. Sure, we can hunt his stuff any time we want, no issues there. But most of his set-ups are more for bow hunting, and I am the only lefty on the place. This makes just about every other bow stand on the property nearly impossible for me to shoot out of comfortably.
In the past I have hunted a few different leases. We had a core group that stayed together through them all. But always had other hunters coming and going. The main complaints we heard from them were, not seeing enough deer. Yet they were rarely there working and improving their own set-ups.
While on leases, my main complaint was atv traffic. People would counter that I would, on occasion, drive my truck to and from my area. They never believed me that a truck is much different than an atv, and I never drove my truck around in the middle of the day, or even within 400yds of my area. And always created a very well hidden spot to park it while setting up my area before season.
Tolerance is the virtue of a man without conviction.
The end of the world began the day it was created, and life is a sexually transmitted terminal disease.

I used to hunt with a guy that everytime he shot at a deer he couldnt wonder why he either missed or made a crappy shot and had to trail the deer for 300 yds. Found out later that he would only buy ammo on sale and it was from different manufactures, different points and different grains. I have never seen any $hit like this since.

Well, I own my own land now, got tired of 3k a year for a place I did not know anyone etc.. you know the drill.
My only real lease that I paid for one year, all the other guys did was whine and complain about how much they paid etc.
When I got on the lease, I was told $2850 for the year, you provide your stand etc and can have up to 2. I was also told I would pay 1/5th of the cost of protein, but I ended up being the only one paying anything for said protein, evidently. I had no idea how much it cost back then though I do now.
I remember placing my stand away from everyone else and the men that I did not know were chuckling about where I had placed it. I saw so many deer I thought they were hogs before the sun came up.
They saw nothing.
Though, I only hunted that one day the entire year because I just did not feel like going back.

I am at the lease almost every weekend. I used to check everybodys feeders when they couldn't make it on that particuliar weekend. If they had a dead battery, I would replace it. Out of corn, I would put enough in the feeder to last until they would come down. I would never go into their area if they were coming down that weekend. That was until we were sitting around the fire one night and one guy made a comment that the reason he wasn't seeing any deer is because I was sabotaging his feeder when he wasn't there. This completely ticked me off. I told him he would find out what a piece of crap feeder he had because I was done maintaining it. Needless to say everytime he comes to the lease he gripes about his feeder throwing too early, empty, battery dead, etc.. All of the things I would've fix for him while he wasn't there.

My dad is the same way. I still do most all the cooking, all the work on his travel trailer, and maintain his feeder. I sure don't mind a bit. I just like that he still likes to go.

Our lease is made up of "Rambo", "Tuna" and "Old Guy" (I "Old Guy". We all worked together at one point in our lives although we represent three different generations. Tuna has young sons, Rambo has college age daughters, and I have Grandchildren.

Ooops! Hit 'Submit' by mistake. Anyway, we all have different skill sets and they blend nicely. I can't do all the heavy lifting anymore but I can cook and process the harvest, Tuna is the 'heavy lifter', and Rambo has maintenance expertise to keep the cabin up. Somehow it all works out and we have a great time. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

I almost burned down a blind this weekend.
We were out scouting our lease in prep for turkey season and there was a new 15' tower blind in OUR private area with orange POSTED signs taped to trees everywhere. Two of the POSTED signs were literally within 30' of one of our blinds! And this is in an area where we had explicit agreement with the ranch manager that all the woods between clearly defined pastures/roads was our private area.
We called the ranch manager from the field and chewed his [censored] out. He now wants to move us - who were there first - to a different area. I'm p*ssed to say the least. I took my personal record buck from this spot. There were days when I had 5 - 10 bucks in the sendero at the same time. Now he wants to move us.
Might very well be the end.

Our grumbling is that we can't spend more time out at the place.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

I hunt as a guest with my inlaws. Because I'm a guest I will make sure if I shoot a deer out there it will be a wall-hanger. Going on about 10 years with them and haven't shot one yet.
Yet other members have their son-in-laws hunting, along with the grandkids. Now no one ever said a word when as 10-12 year olds they showed up to the camp with small spikes and 4 pointers.
Now these same kids are 18-20, and all feel like they must shoot something before the end of the week. So generally that means 6-8 2 1/2 year old 8 pointers killed each Christmas.
Finally someone spoke up, so the lease member is now paying for the 2 son-inlaws. So now on 3 members, 6-8 young deer are killed year.
One of the son-in-laws (50 years old) shot a 6 pointer last year, but didn't tell anyone. 3 days later while riding we came across the 6 pointer. His youngest son (8-10) proudly boasted that his dad shot it earlier in the week, but left it there because it was too small to take back to the camp.
Its all family so most just grumble about it and then try their best to forget it happened. If I were a paying member, I would not have let that fly. If you make a mistake, you bring it back to camp and take your medicine. Under no circumstances do you allow a buck to go to waste.
I think the best way to eliminate problems is to limit guns so you don't have more guns than deer. If you have minimal amounts of hunters, a handful of guys shooting 2 young deer a year, won't effect the overall population, and that just leaves more older mature bucks for the guys serious about taking a trophy.

We have few problems with the 8-9 that we have with the exception of one. The one never comes out without the wife and young kids. Not a problem except they take over the cabin. I get back from hunting and I want to cook breakfast and get whatever chores need down before the mid day or evening hunts. She is always in there cooking and the kids are hogging the TV and table. They have a trailer and do not sleep in the cabin like the rest of us. Also, she will run on the lease roads. She wears the pants in the family and the dad has no control over her or the kids. On top of this these people have money and we have to listen about complaints about nannies and such.

I bought a newish Travel trailer last year. It is the Hilton compared to everyones 80s era trailers. I guess when im not there they make them selves at home and track mud for me to clean up when I get the chance to come down.
Gets old but I really dont care my mind set changes as soon as I pull in the gate.
I did make some new rules
1. Leave it like you found it 2. No rocking an deuces in the bath room PERIOD 3. No rocking your old lady in my bed
So far so goodAlthough I cant verify rule number 3

I really appreciate the hunters on my land. Same ones for 10 years, very respectful, responsible and insist on paying for breakfast when I meet em in town. Great group of men. And the key is you...bet they think the same about you...great landowner...makes a huge difference.
I dont shoot innocent animals...only the ones that bare thier teeth at me... Semper Fi
