its actually cheaper to buy a started dog than to have one from a puppy and get it trained. Just my .02 cents

Isnt there a guy named Tim slattery? Yes, but keep looking. X2... Check out Angie at Tioga Retrievers. I've seen her make great dogs out of dogs that other trainers washed out, or damn near ruined. Whoever you choose, be sure to go out and see their training grounds, kennels, etc. and go on a few training days with them. If the trainer doesn't allow that, do not use them. If you consider tioga kennels please shoot me a pm before you decide.

I am sorry to hyjack this post but, I have trainied a few dogs and had good results. Training takes time and that is why you pay a trainer. However, does anyone know of a trainer not so dang proud of their time. The last 2 I talked to were 500-650 a month.. I ain't broke but goos lord. If it takes 6 months to train the dog right then I am our a lot of money. I mean 400 a month seems fair to me considering they really only spend maybe and hour a day with each dog and thats not 5 days a week..

Your not thinking about time spent other than the actual training. I would bet they spend more time feeding/watering, airing, giving heart-worm/flea/tick which is even done on days off from training. Have you checked boarding prices? For the same amount or even less per day your dog is also getting trained. When you brake it down $20 a day seems like a steal to me.

I think you an me need to discuss this in person. That chicken salad coment shows your just as childish as she is. And if you'd care to meet up somwhere name your spot. I didn't post any thing ugly about tioga, just said I might have a different view than some.

I've got no dog in this other than the one she trained for me and I couldn't be happier with.

Well, it looks like i will probably be going with tioga kennels. Talked to Tim today and the seems like a very nice guy and the dog has been trained for 13 months. That would be like $7200 worth. If they did train all that time.
Whats the story?

Guess I need to look into a started dog myself. That 600 a month is a hard pill to swallow on a budget. I guess saving is the key to my owning a really good gun dog
