I have an opportunity to take over a deer lease and trying to make up my mind if I want to make the switch or not. It has a bunkhouse, water, and electric. It does not have a septic system in place. The current guys have been using an outdoor toilet for years. I want to put an indoor bathroom and shower if I take it over. I know I can build a bathroom in a day but really don't know what to do with the septic. I don't want to spend a ton of money to pay someone to put a septic system in on a lease that I may not even stay on over a year or two. What do some of you guys do for a septic system?

There are three people on our lease and we all took 50 foot of 4" black line, rolled it into the woods, dug a hole for each trailer and let it drain into the holes.

55gal. drum in the ground with holes in it. It has work for me for 8 years. I put it right next to my camper with just the top showing. I have never had any problems with it.

we had one like this for almost 14 years.

never had an issue.

rule of thumb we had, if your a guy, #1 out side, #2 inside

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Good ideas but I don't know if that would work for me. There will not be seperate trailers. There is one bunk house that everyone will be using. That would probably be quite a bit of water/waste going into a 55 gallon drum. Also, it would be a standard house toilet so it would use lots more water than a rv toilet. Might have to give it a try anyway and see if it will handle it.

Most counties have rules and regs about septic systems. They sometimes apply to deer camps etc.. Make sure you know the rules, if done wrong the fines can be expensive.

Plumb only the toilet into the barrel. Grey water from sink, shower etc can be piped away from the camp where it can drain into the ground.

From the 55gal drum put in 20' of perforated pipe. You could also put in two 55gal drums just pipe one to the other. Do not get the county involved just do it.

Yeah, that was the plan. I was going to have the toilet only going into the drum . I guess I'll try it and if it doesn't work we'll figure something else out.

This is probably the best advice of the whole thread.

It will work fine.
Two 55 gallon plastic drums buried under ground, one feeds into the other then has 30' of perferated pipe leaving second drum. Cleanouts piped into top of drums just in case they ever need to be pumped. Full size toilet.
Dont ask me how I know?

Remember, it is easier to beg forgiveness than to get permission.

In that case, forgiveness comes out of your back pocket and will probably bleed your bank account pretty good.

most of my leasers use this method, w/ a little work can be done in one after noon and only cost about 350 bucks. it is more than enough for any deer camp needs

I went to tractor supply and bought a round 250 gal.plastic tank, the kind you see on trailers with an engine for pressure washing, plumbed it with 3" pvc -not 4" like most use, more water in a smaller diameter means the water won't outrun the waste.at the discharge end drill large holes in a cross-hatch pattern with about ten feet of PVC and bury, cover with Tyvec or a non-permeable fabric then cover with dirt, never had a problem.I do have it pumped out yearly though, after I found out my wife was flushing feminine hygiene products down the toilet(big no-no).

Yes. To fill up a 55gal. drum over the weekend would be hard. Remember it is draining all the time.

2 55 gal. barrels hooked together, 2 pieces of lateral line, sinks/shower to grey line out on the ground
all works really well, unless the grey line freezes, then your backed up, just make sure its runnin down hill at least 1" per 20'
