I spent the money and bought one of these... Rig Em Right Jerk Rig Way easier to use than anything I've ever tried to make, and just clip/unclip the decoys. Amazing movement with this thing! Yeah I want to get one of those just for the cord, the whole cord is a thin bungee cord and works great, other homemade set-ups just don't work as good.

The green cord 350 lb test you can get from Academy should work fine for that. Back in the day when they still allowed blinds to be built on Lake X he would rig up a couple of the Dekes with an anchor using this line running back up to the blind to make them dive. I was 8 years old and that was my job to pull on the strings when they were working the ducks.

The elastic cord that comes out of a broken tent pole works awesome on/as a jerk string.

The elastic cord that comes out of a broken tent pole works awesome on/as a jerk string. thats exactly what im using. I tied an overhand loop in one end. Im using an old trailer ball as a weight with a string and keychain caribiner on the ball to clip it to the overhand loop and secure it in place. Then the other end is attached to the string with a snapswivel. every couple of feet i tied an overhand loop with a snap swivel to attach the decoys. I have mine rigged up for four decoys right now. I put another snap swivel on the front end of the string (in front of the decoys....opposite the weight) and one on the back end for connecting to the shock cord. I can also add a decoy at each spot. I bought the rig em right kit too and wound up taking it back because mine worked just as good and was way cheaper. I just made it from stuff i already had around the garage. The tent pole shock cord can be bought at most outdoor shops that sell tents. The string is decoy cord i bought from cabelas a while back. Its not the plastic kind..but nylon. It was in the decoy rigging section. Here are some photos of how i rigged mine. The whole sytem rolled up around the necks of the ducks. Can be removed too since there are snap links on them. I could easily add two more decoys to this system since their is a snap link on either end of the rig. the tent pole shock cord lets you pull the decoys back and forth. The ball makes a perfect weight..but just about any piece of junk can be used as long as it has some weight to it. I can put another decoy right at the connection of the string and shock cord. I can also put a decoy at the connection of the main string and the rig. Hey, im sure there are some other better ways to do this out there...but this has worked great for me so far and cost me nothing. I already had everything. If you have any suggestions to make it better..im all ears too.

well i dont have a dog, but i can imagine it would be somewhat of an issue. Just thinking about it now though..you might could get some heavy guage stiff wire and bend a loop on one end. Run the jerk line through the loop and push the stake down in the mud to put the cord along the bottom. Leaving the loop above the mud so the cord runs freely. Just an idea..never tried it so i dont know if it would work or not.
You would still have an issue though with the cord running between the decoys..but it might help some

Yall ever had any problems with your dogs swimming through your jerk rig? Had to make a dash for the boat yesterday due to a dog getting hung up in the jerkcord. The water we were hunting was to deep to wade. It could have been bad , the dog was wraped up so bad due to him going into a panic. I have never had a dog get hung up this bad before .

Collapsible kayak anchor & bungee cord. Then tie decoy cord to the bungee hook which youve bent into a loop and attach 3 decoys and a feeder butt.
Done and done for less than 10 bucks.
Someone started packaging a prefigured kit with the kayak anchor and it looks identical to this setup.
Or you could use wife's unused 5 lb home barbell for the weight. Ask No-tox. Works like a champ.
Good luck.
