The sheep in the top 2 pics are red sheep, but tha last pic are crosses? Is the hunt for the rams in the bottom pic, or top?
They are beauties.

The ram that has the white face is probably a older ram. He is unique!

Please pardon my ignorance as I have just started to look at ram hunting. Excluding the black buck because I know what that is in the 3 pictures they look like 3 different kinds of rams so when you say red sheep is that a mouflon or aoudad. Just a little confused I really dig the mouflons but not sure what the difference is between the 3 pics. Thanks

A Red Sheep is a natural occurring cross between Armenian Mouflon and Transcaspian Urial. Before the Shaw fell my buddy hunted them in Iran. The US was gifted a herd of them from the Shaw of Iran. They are now on the Clayton Williams ranch in west Texas. Obviously there are HF ranches that have them too. Not too many around. A lot of people get them mixed up with Armenian Mouflon. I've heard "Red Armenian" etc. Armenian Mouflon is seperate from the Red Sheep. You can dig around on Google or the Texas Exotic Association if you like,..but that's the straight scoop.

This is a BIG red sheep. Notice how the horns go out, then down, then in towards the face. An Armenian's horns will go back ( for the most part) up and behind their neck. You can look at the online SCI records and scroll through the pics of each species to familarize yourself with each of them. I'll try to post an Armenian.

Armenian Mouflon.
As this ram ages you can see how the horns are going up and behind the neck. Being that the Red Sheep is a "hybrid" you will see slight variations of horn configurations.
Just like any wild sheep in the world, different genetics, mountain ranges and so forth produce their own unique horn configurations.
Here in Alaska our Dall's look very different from one Mountain range to the next.

Most of those above look to be Armenian Mouflon. http://www.wildsheep.org/sheep/international.htm
if ever in doubt check out Ovis. I had started typing this and I see Kodiak posted a picture of a true Red Sheep. Generally the red sheep are a little more expensive than the Armenians and have a much different horn configuration. The armenians sweep back and the Reds come down in front of their face. $2500.00 for the armenians with meals and lodging is not a bad deal for a red sheep that would be a really good deal. That is a nice red sheep Kodiak. At one point I had guided the number 1 and number 3 red sheep but do not know where they stand now it has been almost 10 years ago. I have seen lots of people push armenians as red sheep here in Texas and actually charge way too much for them.

Thanks Clay!
The second one was #7 SCI when I shot him. 32.5" and VERY massive. I think he is 10 now. The first one was 34.5 but not as massive. On sheep Mass is the key,..which I'm sure you are aware of. Oh and Big Al makes all his stuff look small. He is 6'8" 295!

So you guys telling me these are Armenian Mouflon? If so I need to change this thread. But the price will still stay at 2500.00 and I have 8 left.
