No pics to back it up since the trash had been taken out when I got home that day.

I've shot plently of pintails, and gadwalls so I would think I got it right. I'm in no way too prideful to admit a mistake, but I know what I saw and I'm sticking with it since I don't have those wings.

don't need the wings....
sorry bro, it is a pintail hen
you incorrectly ID'ed the bird and people were kind enough to point it out to you.

I don't see anyone agreeing with you thinking it is a gadwall drake...if they do, I would love to see them post up.

I made this mistake several years ago. The internet game wardens were out in full force that day. Once you learn it then you can spot it from a mile away.

What happened to a man owning up to an honest mistake? It makes you look that much worse that you cant admit that you made a mistake

Pintail Hen

Look at the chest feathers, the Gadwall drake has a much finer mosaic pattern than a pintail hen. Look at the back feathers, the Gadwall drakes tuen a solid color half way back then pintail hen is mottled the whole way.

I shot a black duck today. Anybody else seeing them? I hear they are hard to come by in the Central Flyway.

Yeah, I think I'm with Garret on this, the bill looks very black, and the neck does not look long enough to be a pintail...

This is why there is no monetary prize with the tourny, boy what headache that would be. As it is all this is kinda funny. banana

By all means keep the thread going fellas I'm getting a kick out of it.

To address the "guide" question.

This must really be bothering "birddog14" (please stop PMing me, my inbox is getting full) I find it all kind of funny.

I rarely "guide" hunts most are for pigs or deer, not ducks. I do "take" a lot of friends and family out duck hunting on occasion. We usually shoot limits of pintail hens, and coots.

My business is the "day hunts" for deer, pigs, and ducks. We manage several properties in various central/north central texas counties. We also trap pigs, and offer "guided" pig hunts during the summer in east texas.

One last thing and I'm done;

My name is on every post it's "Matt" Also my web address and Phone # are in multiple locations, I'm not some jerk hiding behind a screen name. If it's really bothering you so much give me a call, I'm really a great guy.

-Matt

Last thing #2, the internet is no place to be serious. Just keep that in mind.

you guys that think it is a gadwall drake....shoot one of those and then two bull spigs....and you better hope the game warden cannot ID it correctly either or you are getting a ticket for being one over for shooting 3 pins. But hey, it is your money.

this thread is awesome. My vote is for everyone to grab a cold one, stop worrying about someone's mis-id, and get ready for the next hunt. so he killed a pinny hen, and thought for a bit it was a juvi grey duck....oh well. beats the hell out of working.

Is it duck season yet?

I think the feet would be easier than the beak in this instance, right? Gadwall feet are orange and Pintail feet are greyish...

Pintail hen

Pintail hen

Pintail hen

Gadwall drake

Gadwall drake

Gadwall drake

Gadwall drake

There's a whole list of feet at the back of the LeMasters Method book.
