What makes for a "trophy" Sika deer? Havent hunted one before and dont know what measurements are poor, average, or good.
Also have heard they run off whitetail more than Axis. Is this true?
Any information would help?

I always say that trophy is in the eye of the beholder, so in that instance it is whatever animal you are proud of.
As far as what is a big one, the thing to keep in mind with sika deer is that there are a lot of different sub-species and crosses, what is big for one sub-species may not be for another.
I do not know a ton about them but as a general rule I would say in a very nice sika you will have beams 18" plus, 4 points to a side with mass and lenght being a plus. Just my thoughts.

On the japs (little black ones) 20" beams with 4 solid points per side - 4 inches each is a pretty good buck. The mainland versions (dybowski & manchurian) get much bigger, and a buck that size will be a 2 year old.

This one is my Japanese Sika. There are two scoring systems - SCI and Record of Exotics. This particular buck goes Gold in both scoring systems ROE at 99.5 points. He has 22 inch main beams, T1s that are 4 and 3 inches, T2s that are 3 and 2 inchest, T3s are 4 and 3.5 inches, burr circumferences of 6 inches on both sides, main beam circumferance of 3.5 inches on both side and inside width of 17 inches. The length of some of his tines could have been longer - but the length of the beams helped him out alot. He was in full rut when I took him, his neck was more than 25 inches which is pretty big for a Japanese Sika. Earl What makes for a "trophy" Sika deer? Any information would help? Gold Medal for sika deer in SCI is 112 for bow and 124 for gun. 99.5 would make him a bronze medal buck with either weapon.

Hmm, I won't argue with you as I'm at work and my sheets are at home but the sheets I have definitely showed him to be gold. Can't remember which scoring system it was will have to look when I get back from white tail hunting this weekend. He's a gold medal in my book anyways. What about for ROE? I can't access their website from work. If I remember, anything 92 and up is a gold with ROE - it makes no sense the two scoring systems would be that far off. This is the link that I believe shows it's gold for ROE - but as I said, I can't open it at work: www.recordsofexotics.info/medal-classifications.htmlEarl

You are correct on that being the link for ROA and they do list Sika gold as 92. What seems strahge to me is it would take a good Japanese Sika to make Gold hut that would not be nearly as impressive for the mainland Sikas. There is only the one line there for Sika not 3 like there are on their Sika Slam sheet

Thanks Travis, interesting there is such a discrepency between the two for medals even though how you score them are identical. I wonder if it is because when they came up with the scoring criteria for ROE they took into account that the numbers SCI has are pretty darn unrealistic for Japanese Sika. Dybowski, yes - Japanese, not so much. But then if that was their thinking you'd think they would have seperate scores for the different species and ROE didn't do that either.
I mean 124? Anyone on here have a photo of a 124 inch JAPANESE Sika? I bet it would cost alot more than the $1100 I paid for this one.

I actually shot a sika a few months ago with my bow that was two inches from gold for SCI. That is how I knew the minimum for SCI.

SCI's probably higher because they don't distinguish between the subspecies. I'd be willing to bet the minimum was raised in the last 15 years. Mainland sika used to be pretty uncommon in the exotic trade, but the crosses at least are showing up a lot more. Travis' buck looks like a cross.
