They shoot the elk, why not donkeys too. Lol
While I agree with shooting donkeys, don't agree with shooting the elk for the same reason... Protect the big horn TPWD does what they want when they want on our public land, sometimes without regard to what the public or neighbor land owners want Care to give a factual reference to what you mention above?

WHAT !!! They used to use .17s on deer. I can't believe they caved to the public pressure and went to the .308.

Why would anyone want to shoot a donkey OR a zebra? Let me share with you a little something about donkeys. They are the most difficult animal to give away. You lose money taking them to a livestock auction. They serve very little purpose on a modern farm or ranch. Other than people who think they are cute, they are no more than big dogs. In fact, one of the few good uses for them is to run with your livestock -- and that's only if it's the right donkey. Unless you are showing donkeys for exhibition, chances are owning a donkey is a gross money-losing venture. Sure, they are cute. They have big ears. Juan Valdez had one. I am sick and tired of people abandoning donkeys out in the county where I live. If I have to round up and chase one more donkey, I'm going to start offering hunts to recoup costs. The local government takes a very hands-off approach to these nuisance animals. THIS is why people want to shoot them: They are, for the most part, and worthless animal that does not belong. If you feel the urge to "SAVE THEM," then by all means I'd like you to open up a sanctuary and fund it with your own dollars (no grants.) Can you tell I have a problem with too many donkeys being abandoned????

I think the state should catch a bunch of them, paint them white with black stripes and call them zebras! Then have "zebra" hunts, the sale of hunts would be a good source of income for the Jacka$$es in Austin. Who are you calling "Jacka$$es in Austin"? Members of the legislature.

When I was out in Terlingua this summer I met an old coach from the high school that was FURIOUS about all this donkey mess. I am guessing he won't be happy about this. I could care less about them, but I do agree with bobo and kmon that the killing of the elk to save bighorns is BS. An elk reintroduction would be much easier to succeed with and more lucrative anyways IMO. I don't really care for the bighorns because no matter how much money TPWD spends on their reintroduction, chances are that less than 1% of Texans will ever see one in the wild, let alone get the chance to hunt them and that is BS.

If you are standing on the prairie in texas, in the dark, and hear hooves stampeding around you, it could be zebras, donkeys, wild mustangs, or someone's cows......
Guess cows.

Started this thread this morning and it took off. I would shoot a nuiscance donkey. Fill my freezer. Heck might even get the hide done. Drawn hunts = $$$ for TPWD. Earn preference points for a BURRO-ito or as Schrek says DAWN-kee.

No elk in Diablos in 1923. They were released by landowner recently. What should neighboring ranches in Diablos do with these elk that are now on them? These private ranches did not want the elk.

They probably just need to get the age structure under control to have a healthier herd.
