I am wanting to rough in some window opening in a new blind and I am interested in using the Deer view windows in the future, Has anyone here installed them before? mainly, I was going to from my window openings with 2"x4"'s and wasn't sure how they mounted, or if the needed the OSB as a lip.

I did try to call, but being Saturday...

Thanks

Frame out the entire window, sides, top and bottom. Make your openings 1" smaller than the window size you need. I buy hundreds of these every year and you will not be disappointed.

Thanks Larry. Larry is correct in this when using our Hinge window or our Camo hinge window. If you are looking at using a different style of our window it varies.

I bought the slider windows and the rough opening is 1/8" x 1/8" bigger than the window size you order. For example I ordered the 11 1/2" x 36" and made my opening 11 5/8" x 36 1/8". They fit great.

Thanks for the reply's! Yeah I went ahead and roughed them in so I could get the siding on and route the openings. I went the 1" smaller on the new window. The 2 small ones are odd ball size, so they will have to be made. they are like 23 1/2" x 11"

This is why I hate to get my self into a "rush" job.

You'll really like his windows. Our 4 x 8 blind blew over in some high winds....quite a bit of misalignment of the structure. After straightening everything out the Deerview windows operated like new.

Are these pretty water proof?

TX35, I picked mine up Friday, Sash" style, I would go with the sliders over the "sash" if you want waterproof. Had I not ordered custom size's, I would have switched to the slider styles. I did see there slider with the camo and they are real nice, better than the photos.

Tony did a great job of helping me out since I was in a time bind and it was a rush job, he is a good guy to work with.

Bring this back up. I know. It's old. But beats starting a new thread on the same topic.

I just received eight windows from Tyler and will get out to my place (little less than 600 miles from here) to get them installed over the Labor Day weekend. I wanted to see if anyone had any tips they wouldn't mind sharing regarding tips and tricks for installation. I'm pretty certain my windows (hinged, to open up) are sized correctly to my rough openings, which are about 1" steel square tubing.

I know it "seems" pretty straightforward, but any tips on hardware (self-tapping screws, size, etc.), the installation itself, and how to prop the windows up when hunting.

My place is kind of out in the middle of nowhere, so I'd like to get there fully prepared without having to run to town every other hour to get what I need.

I appreciate any insight. Thanks, fellers.

They come with all the hardware and are very easy to install. I would recommend installing the to fall down when opened and have a sand bag or piece of carpet to place on top of the window edge when ready for a shot.

Just dry fit , then fasten one side first, slide the window in, install the other side, screw in the stops, done

Pitchfork is right, come with all the hardware. You may need some self tapping screws though.
I also used 1/4" self stick weather stripping between the window frame and the blind, sure made a huge difference on the seal, I have not had one drop of water get in 3 windows for 2 years..

I hinged mine up and used the supplied swivel hooks to hold them open when hunting, they are up and out of the way.

Thanks for the tips, gents. Would love to hear more if anyone has others.

Dennis, I would love to see a pic when you get the chance. I'm having trouble visualizing how the swivel hooks hold the window up. Actually, it's usually hard for me to visualize verbal or written things very well. cyclo violin

Thanks again!

Sure, may be tomorrow though, shoot, I was just in the blind a bit ago ranging a few spots to move my feeder LOL

The little "swivel hooks" come with the window though, "L" shaped with a hole through it for the screw, it then rotates on the screw and acts as a latch. If that makes sense.

Makes sense. My stands were on the place when I bought it, so I am putting these new windows into older homemade stands and replacing old trailer house windows that I needed to prop open with a wooden dowel. Problem is, I am going to be fighting some interesting engineering to get these installed in at least one of the stands. Probably will have to install to open down as the windows are pretty close to the roof. We'll see next week.

Thanks again.

It will make more sense when you look at the little hooks they supply for keeping the windows closed, I just used one for each window to hold it open. One reason I prefer mine to open "up", is if for some reason someone forgets to raise it up, or the latch somehow releases, anything can get it. If its up and comes unlatched, it is still down and nearly closed.

That's a great point. But if I install to open up, I'm almost certain I'll have to rig something to hold the window open while in use. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

Might attach a bungee cord across, raise window and pull cord over.

Tracking. Thanks for the pics! Might have to think quick and engineer a few things to get these windows installed in my old metal blinds. I am realizing it's a lot better when you build the blind around the windows.

Thanks again. I'll let you know how it works out.

Here are the screws you will need if you are going into metal. If not just get without self tapping.

Blue Hawk 100-Count #8 x 0.5625-in Zinc-Plated Self-Drilling Interior/Exterior Sheet Metal Screws

You can get these at Lowes

Buy #6 one inch long self tapping screws for the tabs that keep the windows closed or open.

Also at Lowes

If you have a buddy to help hold the window while you install it really helps keeping it lined up.

These windows will be the best money you ever spent to go hunting!!
