If you run a traditional style scope, what kind of groups do you get?

Im thinking about a new upper and it would have to shoot

I haven't had a chance to group mine at much further than 25 yards yet even though I've had it for a few months, hopefully it groups well

Mine groups good when over scoped. I can group .5" @ 100y with my 2.5-8x and .3" with the 6-24x, it's a 20" RRA varmint (bull barrel) upper. Bad part is that the upper is about to heavy to be practical.

My WOA barreled uppers are all sub MOA. Get a good barrel if your going for groups.

I had quarter sized groups with mine with Iron sites from 25Y so I'm sure if I put a scope on there I could get some great groups

I can shoot .5 inch groups at 100 yards with a Leupold 3x9x40 scope and the following ammo. BVAC 75 gr BTHP and 64 gr soft point reloads.

My daughter took her first deer with the BVAC 75 gr BTHP with one shot from 85 yards this past weekend. Deer dropped in it's tracks. And that's accurate enough for me.

Link to her deer.

I have 2- AR-15's, 1 custom ($1100) with a Super Sniper 3-9 FFP and 1 basic ($750). They both shoot great when you feed it the ammo that it likes. My basic AR has a 1-4 Burris and shoots the 60 grain Vmax and 68 grain BTHP bullet and shoots about 1/2 to 3/4 moa with the load it likes out to 600 yards. If you feed it some ammo that it doesn't like, you can get 2" -3" groups with it. Same thing with the custom AR. If I feed the custom AR with my basic AR ammo, I get 3"-4" groups at 100. I was really worried about this. So, I did a load work up with it, and it shot 1/2 moa with several loads with a 60 grain V-max. I'll be working on a 77 grain SMK load shortly with the custom AR. So, you have to find what ammo the AR likes to shoot for it to be a good shooter. Most guns are capable to shoot moa or less with good ammo.

We were getting touching groups the other day at 50 yds with open sights. That was with a 10.5" barrel.

I use a 3-9x40 Nikon Monarch on my .223 AR. It shoots 1/2" groups at 100 yards.

Bob

Here are two 3-shot groups at 100 yards shot at different times using 55 gr. SBT's.

I have a couple of ARs. One has an Eotech without magnifier. With that, I can hit a paper plate repeatedly at a 100 yards. But I can also do that with iron sights so not too impressed.

The other one I have cheap Millett 1x4 on it and I'm a little very accurate at 25-50 yards. At 100 yards, I feel like the 4x doesn't really help me much. So I'm thinking about switching to a 3x9 on that AR.

That's the barrel on my 6.8

My new 5.56 upper has some kind of Ranier barrel on it so I might mount the scope on it for a range trip just to see how good it is. Not really worried about it though as it'll just be relegated to iron sight and/or an Aimpoint.

My 6.8 SPC is a consistent 5/8" rifle. Every once in a while I can get it down in the 0.4"s. YHM & AR Performance custom build.

Yes 3/4", it is amazing how accurate it is with the load I worked up for it. I have taken it to tac pro a couple of times to shoot the 400yd clay bird shoot and it did very well. I just have to figure out how to shoot it that good with wind.

I'm running a J P Enterprises AR 15 with a Nikon Coyote Scope 4.5 x 14. Accuracy at 100 yards is shot on shot and can be covered by a quarter at 200 yards. I can easily take yotes at 400 yards. Haven't pushed it pass that yet but look forward to some long range shooting in the upcoming month. The trigger has a great deal to do with this guns accuracy. The rifle can shoot far better than my skill level permits.

The scope has the BDC reticle which appears to make it very accurate on varmints out pass 200 yards.

good enough to drop a coyote at 416yrds.....standard FMJ 55g, 223...i think free floating the barrel is a big key. I have a Leupold Mark AR 3-9x40 and i would highly recommend it!

Standard dedicated mounts are actually 1.5" high and canted forward to get proper eye relief(notice how the rear of the scope is a little far back but can't be moved forward due to the position of the rear ring).

Standard dedicated mounts are actually 1.5" high and canted forward to get proper eye relief(notice how the rear of the scope is a little far back but can't be moved forward due to the position of the rear ring).

The picture in my post may be deceptive. The "A" dimension is 1.5". The "B" dimension is .75 ". I considered an AR mount that was more forward. I took these off my Remington R-15. The scope with the stock extended works well for me as far as eye relief. I may change in the future.

My PEPR mount is way shorter and I have good relief and cheek weld.

My Daniel Defense DDM4 V1 w/ 4X ACOG was shooting sub MOA w/ silver bear. That was only 3 shot groups though. prob was luck, I just threw some rounds down to check zero. I would say overall it does at least shoot 1-1.5 MOA. I'll find the pic of that sub MOA silverbear group. I was pretty impressed.

I call bull crap on this, sorry

Show me pictures to shut me up

I dont usually keep targets, just the load data. Why is it so hard to believe that a gun can shoot like this? I have several that do and most of the guys I shoot against have precision rifles that do also. I dont figure a pic would do much for you. This is the rifle in question with illuminated scope for hunting.

Here are a couple of more that would all shoot under 1.25" at 400yds.

This is an average group from a 14.5" barreled upper I built for a guy that returned it 3 days later claiming he couldnt get it to shoot anything tighter than 4" groups at 50 yrds. After having a friend take it to the range the upper turned out to be a bit more accurate... rolleyes

This group was in 10-12 mph crosswinds...

Upper receiver, Spikes.
BCG, Spikes.
Charging handle, BCM/Vltor gunfighter.
Barrel, WOA 14.5"
Forearm, 11" Troy TRX.
Muzzle device, Battlecomp.

Bout to have it up for sale at way below cost of parts to recoup some money. Crappy pic...

Lol, I'm willing to bet that is most people on here.

I find it funny how many people post pictures of these groups that are nowhere near the bullseye. To me that means, you got lucky with one group and you can't duplicate it hitting the actual bullseye.

I have done this, which was a lucky 3 shot group. Now keep in mind, these are handloads and not bulk factory ammo.

This picture is a much more accurate depiction of what I normally shoot.

I'm not sure why you think that....

Rifle accuracy has nothing to do with "hitting the bullseye". It is about the size of your group. Almost none of my rifles are sighted in to "hit the bullseye" at 100 yards....most of them are sighted in high so they will hit dead-on at 200-250 yards.

Also, often times, once the bullseye has already been shot at a few times....I will just pick a spot somewhere else on the target to aim (a number, letter, etc...) to save on targets.

I know it has nothing to do with hitting the bullseye. I would prefer you not talk to me as if I was a child. I know what rifle accuracy it.

So many of these targets show the gun shooting low and to the left or just to the left, or wayyy right. I'm just saying... If you can shoot that well, put up a 5 shot group with the gun sighted in and hit the actual target. My point being, anyone can get lucky with a 3 shot group when testing different ammo. Look at my two pictures. That's the same gun, same bullet combination, same load. One shows a lucky 3 shot group I had, the other shows what I normally shoot.

Again, my theory is just that most are lucky groups, and you can't duplicate said group on the actual target.

If you gun is sighted in at 200 or 250, shoot at that distance and show me a group on target. Not just some picture with a dime on it on paper.

I do the same thing as Eland Slayer- I shoot multiple groups per target in order to save walking down and putting another one up. Heck, sometimes I just staple blank printer paper on the target board and aim at the staples. When you say "nowhere near the target" you're ASSuming you know what the target was in the first place.

X2
In addition to that I will shoot at the aiming dot or bull in windy conditions that way I can easily measure the drift and know how much it changes point of impact. Most of my guns are sighted 1 to 2.5 inches high at 100 and I am not am not going to select a different point just to put it in some little different colored spot, then on game I have a better idea of how much to hold for the wind under simular conditions.

Figured I would open a can of worms saying that. I just don't believe what most people say. I will say, the people who handload I can believe for the most part. I have seen what handloads can do for accuracy in my gun. I just find it funny when people shoot sub MOA with cheap ammo.

Why do you not have your gun sighted in with your best load? Makes no sense.

Some times the "best load" for hunting say deer or hogs is not the best load for target or varmits. With a couple rifles depending on the time of year as to what they are sighted in for. for instance my CZ 223 the prefered coyote and target load and the load I use for deer have POI different from each other by one inch left and 2inches up, at 100 yards.

My one shot groups are 0.224" in diameter.

But my AR is probably closer to a 1.5-2.0 MOA rifle.

Matt, NICE!

Thanks Chris!

That was with hand loads but for factory ammo it shoots just under a inch with black hills and federal Gold Metal. its got to be 60gr or heavier for it to group well.

My AR shoots a hell of a lot better than I can hold. RRA lower w/ national match 2 stage trigger, Compass Lake upper w/ SS Kreiger bbl and national match sights. I used it to shoot XTC NRA matches when I shot regularly. Haven't shot one of those in a few years though. My loads were 24 gr of Varget and a 69 gr SMK BTHP for everything up to 300 yards. My 600 yard load was 24 gr of Varget and an 80 grain SMK BTHP if memory serves correctly. I liked shooting the M1A better though! LMAO!

Heres an example what an accurate AR can do everyday not just once in a blue moon. All groups shot today at Top Gun shooting club in Leonard. !st group shot of the day @ 100 yards.

A close to sub MOA group @ 200 yards

And a sub MOA group @ 300 yards
