Any help on what feed attracts axis? Ive been putting out alfalfa hay but the whitetails are cleaning it up fast. Ive heard horse feed? Getting pics on camera set up on their trails but cant seem to lure them to my blind, feeder setup. I did sit out yesterday evening and saw a spike mixed in with the whitetails. Im after a monster that has been seen often on the property! any advice? Thanks

Alfalfa hay is one of the best, you might also try alfalfa cubes or cubed alfalfa hay that look like large range cubes since they are larger and WT have more trouble eating them. I have rattled in axis bucks in late Nov/early Dec in Kerr County. It is worth a try since the can be in the rut year round. Most of them rut in the summer months though.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?

Axis eat the same as whitetail,But they do not pattern like whitetail. If you are not in a high fence the axis you see today may or may not even ever be seen again. If you see one you like you better take it and not wait until the next time. How do I know? I have done it and never seen the deer again.

I don't know if its the drought or what, but we switched to give a try to the Record Rack 20% Deer and Elk protein feed this year and the axis are hitting it hard! It smells a lot sweeter when you open the bag than what they are used to so maybe that is why. They are picking to go to it over the alfalfa hay.

On my place in Mt. Home, Tx. I use chaffhay. It's alfalfa with a sweet feed and both whitetails and axis love it. It smells 10x more than a regular bale of alfalfa hay. It comes in a 50# bag for about $12.50 a bag. I've thrown it out where their was no feeder and both whitetails and exotics find it the same day. On the down side not many feed stores carry it.

thanks for the advice. i never just hunt over a feeder i always spread corn in all directions out to 200 yards. I use a road feeder and before i can get in the blind there is piles of deer on it.

Well after this rain they have quit coming to corn as fast as they were before. A few acorns have fallen and the fresh green growth has pulled them away from it temporarily.
