If you didn't see deer it doesn't have anything to do with stand distance. Maybe wind direction.

I won't shoot past 30 yards anymore personally. Too many variables.

Also, I know you said you could group well but make sure you also group well with broadheads.

When I had my pop up blind, shot a couple of deer at five yard or less. I've had a couple of toying does stick their face in the window to look.

The deer was 3 feet away from the tree my stand was hanging on. I just happened to be 10 feet in the air. So that is 3 feet horizontally and 10 feet vertically. I had to avoid hitting the platform when shooting almost directly down.
