I just finished putting together my 1 man duck boat! It started out as this...

an 8ft pelican bass raider that I got on a trade last week.

Then I took out the seat, mounted the trolling motor, put my layout blind in the middle, and covered the sides with camo net from Cabelas.

I had to partially disassemble my layout blind to make it fit, but it is actually pretty comfotable to lay in. I used some extra decoy anchors on the edges of the net to keep it from blowing around too much while on the water. I should have the title/registration in a few weeks, but I plan on using it on private water mostly.

It ain't too fancy, but it oughta help me kill some ducks!

Thanks guys. I'm hoping that the next pictures of the boat will have a limit of teal in them too!

Looks good. Now you just need to build a cart for the places where a portage may be needed to get it to the water.

nideaHmmm, That's not a bad idea. Most of the private water I hunt is easy to drive up to, but I may try some public water where it would come in handy.

Just remember if you're out on public with that thing it needs to be titled and register...

If your crowded for room remember you can put it in the water, tie your decoy bag to it and let it float behind you. That way you can keep the extra room in the boat for a dog or whatever.

That's a great idea. It seemed a little crowded when I put all my gear in it. I might have to give that a try.

If you leave the trolling motor off and tow it to where your going, I don't think you need license or registration.

We camo our kayaks similarly to that. The main problem we have is the camo that hangs in the water really slows you down. It will also drag you to the side if there isn't even drag on both sides of the boat.

Looks good.

For whatever reason in Texas if you're going to use a trolling motor, the boat or kayak has to be titled and registered.

Thanks, I have it set up so that I can pull the camo into the boat while its moving, then I just drop it over the edges and the decoy weights will hold it down.

I am already working on the title/reg paperwork. I should have it all taken care of by the time the season starts

Get a rudder and that will help alot. Also gotta love peddling more than paddling. :-)

That would be awesome for the coast and other open water hunts.

Looks good!

Call and talk to the Gals at the parks and wildlife office in Garland. They helped me get mine taken care of.

I took the boat out this morning. It worked well, but the net on the sides is kind of a pain. gonna have to re-think it a little.

I keep the camo netting balled up in the front of my pirogue and cover the boat once I'm to the hunting spot. Once the edges of the net are wet the wind does not blow them much so I don't use weights. I also use a sled to pull my decoys behind me if I need the extra room up front. The decoy bag will get hung up on sticks and stumps without the sled. I also have a trolling motor and have the boat registered. It is great for coves and back water, but I get real nervous in open water. Yours will probably handle waves better than my pirogue though. Good luck and be safe.
