We have a lease SE of menard on 377 and were down there for the last 4 days. We had deer on our cameras from April till mid June, then didn't have but one pic of a deer from June 18th till monday. The cameras worked the whole time taking pics of other critters but no deer. We had absolutly no water on the lease and our leaser took all the livestock off the lease. We didn't see any dead deer and only saw 2 deer in 4 days. Its looking like a bad year for us. I,m not far from ya, but haven't been out that way this year. We hunt on WPA-Long Mountain Road off 377. Luckily we have live water, which I'm sure is now dead, and the rancher has two wells. Which I do believe wimm make your loss my gain as I figure the deer to be all over these areas with water.
the man at the top of the mountain didn't fall up it

Anthrax maybe? It usually shows up in dry years. But I thought it occurred further south That was my first thought as well. Anthrax is in the ground basically anywhere in TX. Only way to be sure is to test a dead deer. A few years back we had a client who had anthrax on his ranch in Junction . They had to cull over 100 deer off that place. It was a bad deal.

How do you cull deer with anthrax? My limited experience with it is they are dead within a very very short period of time and it is usually occurs in the mid summer. How could they cull out of season? One thing you do not want to do is handle dead deer without the proper knowledge of what to do and how to do it. Humans can get anthrax from a fly bite as well as inhale it also.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?

Found only one dead on our place this year, and he still had his rack so he died early on.
