In kansas you do see very many bobcats. I noted in crosscuthunters post "crosscut bobcat" (photo section) Maggie posted that 1 less bobcat = lots more deer? Is this a common openion??? Do bobcats kill deer very often? Or is it only the big cats every once in a while? Curious in Kansas Seth

They will kill fawns! I have only seen them eat/kill rabbits at our place!

bobcats can take down a full grown deer just about & fawns are easy picking for them

I was told that big cats can and will take a deer a week. Lots of people think they are so pretty and will not kill them. Their choice I guess.

They will especially go after fawns. But like Maggie sasid they can take down a full grown adult in the right situations.

There's a big bob on the plant here, where no hunters are allowed, that has been seen often chewing on the carcass of a grown deer, mostly doe. And he's not afraid of humans, either. It'll protect its kill at all costs.
One of my pipefitters called me out on a job one day. Right beside the fence at a main entrance to one of our production lines was a big bob with a full grown doe. It snarled and showed its teeth when they got near it. When there's no natural enimies, they get brave, big and fat.

You know, I had to re read the topic of this post a few times before it registered right with me.
For some reason I had this picture in my head of a deer eating a bobcat. Need to get more rest or something.

fastl: I first read the title the same way as you! It reminds me of the old English-teacher-example of a misplaced modifier: "Throw your mother off the train, a kiss"

Guess them thangs are a little more agressive than I thought. I have not seen any big enough to take down a deer. My dad shot two one time back to back. Male and female. Male jumped up on a stump. Dad popped him and then the female jumped up where the male had been. Same story second verse. I got the picture somewhere. They sure are pretty cats. Lots of fun to shoot.

i can speak from experence that a bob cat will attack a human if his food is messed with... some years back i shot a doe one cold evening late.... it got to dark to locate it so i waited till first light.... i was walking in the brush about 70 yard from were i shot the doe when i seen its hind end sticking slightly out of the thick south texas brush ... i reached in and grabbed the hind leg and then something reached up and grabbed me... it was a big old bob....cut me pretty good on my shoulder luckly i had a heavy coat on... made me about crap myself... needless to say it was eating my doe... well i got the doe in the freezer and the big bob to the taxidermist and his head looks great on my wall......
