If you only had one caliber, one scope? Which would it be? 3x9, or other. Consider deer, elk, and coyote?!

Your going to start an argument! But it should be fun.

.308 or 30.06 with 2.5-8 or 3-9

If your sure your going to hunt elk, 30.06 gets the nod.

o heck, this is gonna get good.

I'm going to say any of the .300mags (.300wsm is my personal preference) with a score in either the 4-16 or 5-20 power range.

Now, I aint raggin on the trusty 3-9, but I believe that at 4 or 5 power, short shots (50 yards and under) aren't going to be too much of an issue and that extra power in the 14-20 range really helps out ALLOT over 9x when you need to reach out and touch somethin.

.308 Savage model 10 (modified a bit)
6-24 X 50 MIL/ MIL, ffp, illuminated. Have good dope for it from 25-1000 yds. It's a heavy booger but that's what slings are for.

If I'm ever down to one rifle, it'll be this one!

I'd probably opt for .25-06 and a good 4-12x.

I would vote for the 7mm Remington Mag. Load it up or load it down. Probably the best selection of weight range and high BC projectiles out there. Optics kind of depend how you hunt. I would probably look at a 4-12 variable.

7 mag and and a fixed 4x would work for anything I hunt, but would be really boring so fortunately that's not all we are limited too

learn something new everyday and you will have never wasted a day.

Waited on it for 3 months, but it's been worth it! I'm so invested in that shooting system that I can never part with it. I'd lose my a$$. I'll just leave it at that.

A Good Bolt Action in .308 or .30-06, both calibers can be loaded up or down the .30-06 can go up a little higher but the .308 kicks a little less.

For scope a Zeiss 3.5-10x44MM Scope should suffice for most all normal hunting applications.

That being said, you can't own just one gun.

x2 on rifle suggestion and your wisdom about can't own just one. I would suggest Nikon scopes either Buckmaster 4-12x50 or Monarch 4-16x50. It will save you some cash without giving up quality.

Well, ignoring the .223 and 7.62x39, the .30-06 is the top-selling big game round in the U.S., so it must be the best.

And the 3x9 variable scope is the most popular, so it must be the best.

I currently own 3 rifles in .30-06, but seldom shoot them. I own around 20 scopes in 3x9, and occasionally use them.

Easy question.....or NOT!

Just because a certain item is the highest selling does not make it the best. I submit, that the .30-06 is the highest selling because someone's dad taught them that's what they should shoot, he was told that by his dad, and he was told from his, and he was told by his all the way back to 1906 when it was introduced. I would also submit that the 3-9 x 40 is the same story.

I have nothing against the .30-06 or the 3-9 x 40 but I do think it would be hard to label any caliber, or optic "the best".
