One of the recoil calcualtors on line:

http://www.handloads.com/calc/recoil.asp

If you do not have the numhers to plug in use one of the reloading sites like http://www.hodgdon.com/basic-manual-inquiry.html to find the powder weight to use

Really, recoil is a very subjective thing. So the only way for you to truly answer your question is to shoot the same model rifle in .300 WM you are thinking of buying/using. Not just caliber, but the same gun, as felt recoil can vary greatly even between rifles of the same caliber.

Good luck!

It depends on the weight of the rifle, stock design/recoil pad and weight of bullet that you choose to shoot.

There is a world of difference in a lighter weight rifle (Sporter) shooting 200 grain bullets & a heavier weight (Sendero) rifle shooting 150 or 165 grain bullets. McMillan stocks seem to have less felt recoil for some reason, IMO. Dunno why.

I agree!

Most people that use magnums are just compensating for something anyway.

Their not pink, it's more of a Lavender and it's a 32. 45's recoil too hard, don't want to break a nail. Pink is more of an Austin thing, you know how them boy's are.

That is why Ultra Mags are needed, so can tear up more meat and never be questioned about panty color bolt

All depends on the gun. If it has a heavy barrel and stock then not much. If its a standard barrel and no recoil pad then its going to knock the poop outa ya

I think if you are you only using it for hunting the 300WM is just fine recoil wise. I did recently sell mine because I like to spend alot of time shooting at the bench. It was not a rifle that I wanted to put 30 or 40 rounds through at a time anymore. In a hunting situation you will never notice the recoil.

After it happens to you a few times you will get over it or get a scope with a better eye relief.

To be serious for a moment...

All other things being equal, a .300 Win Mag will feel like it's kicking about a third again what a .30-06 feels like. The thing is, all other things are NEVER equal.

I had a Remington 700 Mountain Rifle in .280 some years back. The first time I fired it, I thought I must have not shouldered it correctly. The second time I fired it I felt about the same. The third time I fired it, I decided I needed a piece of cardboard or something between my shoulder and the butt pad. I bought a PAST recoil shield and used it from then on for shooting that rifle.

When my sister came up needing some money, I sold the rifle. She did not accept the money when I offered it to her and I found that extremely irritating. Anyway, I bought a Ruger 77 Mk.II in .280 just a couple of months later. It weighed about 4 or 5 ounces more than the 700 did, and I was prepared to be pounded but I was pleasantly surprised---it was a pussycat to shoot off sandbags.

The real difference between the two was the stock design. Just what difference between the stocks made the difference in perceived recoil, I can't say. What I can say is that I have fired many rifles bigger than the .280, but that Mountain Rifle was the nastiest and most unpleasant to shoot rifle I ever fired and I hated that SOB. I am glad I sold it. I have had three rifles chambered in .280, and two of them have been easy shooters.

So...if you outfit yourself with a .300 Win Mag, you might want to pay attention to how big the surface area of the butt pad is, and how soft and thick the pad is also. I think you'd find that 180-grain ammo provides more recoil impulse than 165- or 150-grain ammo also. The best thing you could do is fire someone else's rifle, though. That's the only way you'll really know whether you want to put up with the recoil.

Okay, I'm done, thanks for the short break. We can resume talking about pink panties and such now. stir
