High fences are raising prices....because "its all about the horns" right...I like killing big bucks as much as anyone...but I like hunting wild animals not pets. I should have never even wrote on the thread anyway...it is not going to go anywere....

Looks like we have yet another member finally figuring it out.
I'm adding BradyBuck60 to the list who'll shake their head each time this topic crops up. Right, Brady?

It's antlers and the demand for them that area raising prices. By your example 130 inch hi-fence buck should bring more than a 130 inch low fence buck.

if high fencing isn't such a bad deal then open the gates on them for a couple weekends out of the year...i know of a couple 30 acre crp places adjacent to them that i i'll lease up really quickly...our new motto "OPEN THE GATES"..free the 3 percent of non public witetails!

could you hunt a 130 class cull/management buck for less $ than a 800-1500 lease fee?..i haven't tried but it seems like all the numbers i am hearing around here range from 2k-3500 for a management buck??

Unfortunately, outlawing high fences would be nothing more than another government attack on the symptom of the problem and not the problem itself. Outlawing high fences would not help, and it would be a serious affront to private property rights. Do you want the government to have even more power over what you do with your private property than it already does?

Seen a few that offered some pretty reasonable rates.
But if i have a ranch that has allot of 130 inch management bucks, i can assure you the lease is going to be allot higher than that. Some of the low fence ranches around here are leasing for 10.00 an acre, and you may never see a 130 inch buck, let alone be guaranteed one.

This topic will never be solved....I personaly just like to hunt deer that are not penned up. I don't like shooting deer that I can hand feed. I belive high fences are ruining hunting. It may be legal and some may like it but I just don't. I also respect the fact that other people may like to shoot pets and that fine....just not for me!
So are the big bucks that walk into hunting camps on big, low fence ranches such as the King and Kennedy ranches considered pets as well? I'm not trying to be a smart A$$ but the experiences I've had on high-fenced places the deer are as wild as any low fence ranches I've been on. Don't get me wrong, I've had some 1 & 2 year old bucks act just plain stupid just like they will anywhere but the mature bucks we are hunting are as wily as any out there! When you have to shoot 120-180 deer a year off of 3,500 acres it tends to educate them pretty damn good!
I respect that you do not like high fenced places and will not hunt on one but please don't act like these deer are pets that you can whistle at and have them run out to feed because that's !
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

I am from Brady, Tx and I have Seen half the county bought up and high fenced.....it makes me sick....I have hunted for free my entire life and I still can...I am never going to be able to pay even $2000 to hunt and I am afraid my kids will never get to experince what I have been able to.
Sir, it is a fact that your children will not be able to experience hunting for free unless they either own the property or have some really good friends or relatives in the ranching business. Those days are gone forever never to return. But if you think that is the fault of high fences you are mistaken. There ranches right now in S Texas that are getting $10,000+ a gun for one trophy and one management deer and the highest fence they have on them is a 5-strand barbed wire fence.
If you want to place blame on the high cost of hunting, place it where it belongs. It is businessmen, doctors, lawyers, and all others that have big money that drive the industry. They are willing to spend the money and the ranch owners are glad to cash in. This is no different then any other industry in the World! If I'm in construction and can sell a job to a client for 10% profit instead of 5% does that make me a sorry SOB? Come on, it's how every business is run. You make the profit your market allows you to or you just close the doors! Trust me, if there were nobody willing to spend $10,0000 or more on a single deer, the market would probably come crashing downward in a damn big hurry.

As soon as high fences become illegal we might as well hand over our weapons because we'll be absolutely not different then any other commy nation! When are you going to realize that these properties are owned by individuals and not the Damn Government! It is their land to do whatever they want to with!

I agree with you on the doctor, lawyer, business man , rich guy thing..to my experience land owners have let the $ do the talking for sure..(not to say that i wouldn't if i owned a place)...in my opinion the part of your idea that bothers me the most is the idea of the hunting ," industry"...or the hunting market...people in the hunting "market or industry" are the minority...the hunters are the majority and unfortunately the doctors and lawyers are a minority also...why should the docs and lawyers only get to hunt? if what a lot of high fence props say then thats all that will be able to afford it...im not going to squeal not fair! but i will say that it is blown out of proportion....where i live we dont have high fence ranches and despite what some may say/hope for , we won't for a while....

I dont look at it so much as a money issue, but as an issue of property rights. If you want to high fence your land and bring in whatever to hunt on it, its your right as a propertey owner.(as long as you arent breaking the law) I grew up on a ranch that my family and I still own and you wouldnt believe the amount of people who think that they are entitled to acess that land or tell you what to do with it. If its your land you do what ever you want with it as long as its legal. With that said I dont really support high fence hunting for the general hunting populaton, but if its your land and thats what you want to do with it go right ahead. With the way things are for alot of land owners they have to do what it takes to pay the bills and sometimes that means selling, if the best money comes from the guywho wants to high fence it, why shouldnt they take it? I dont think its a rich guy thing that drives the price up,(I've seen alot of working stiffs save for a couple years to go on one of these hunts) its more of a instant gratification thing. Yeah I know that it isnt always easy to kill a deer in a high fenced pasture, but when was the last time you saw one of these places that didnt have a 100percent succes rate? Oh and not all high fence hunts are expensive , I've seen alot of public land outfitted hunts that are more than your basic high fence hunt. I think the problem is letting people manage wildlife like its livestock.

I totally understand your feelings and I'd probably guess that the area your in, Post, TX, most ranches out that way are very large in size compared to the Hill Country and South Texas. In saying this I'd have to agree with you that there probably won't be much, if any high fencing going on around there for a while.
On the is it fair issue, I'll just leave it at this. I'd love to be able to own a place myself but it will more then likely never happen. I'd love to be able to build a new $250,000.00 house for my beautiful wife and great kids, but it's probably not going to happen. I'd love to have a brand new top of the line Diesel truck this year, but that is not going to happen. I'd love to be able to afford a $10,000.00 deer every year, again it aint gonna happen! What I'm getting at is I can't afford those things and I'm just like you, I'm not going to scream that it's just not fair or right. It's the hand the good Lord has given me and I'm more then happy with everything I have and am completely content to play it out instead of crying 'it aint fair or right'!

I feel very blessed to get to hunt for free. I have some great freinds with some amazing ranches that they don't lease. I don't like high fences but that is my opinion and everyone else can have theirs. I guess reading some of these posts has made me realize that its not going to change. Deer hunting is now a buisness. I was probably wrong in stating that high fences should be ilegal. It is their land to do with what they want even if I don't like it...I just want to agree to diagree

indeed... but it aint gonna happen now..... if anything, the horns taken from these zoo's should not be allowed to hold ANY record of any sort... hell, they put an asterik next to barry bonds at least, they should do the same with the zoo deer.
